Trump Gives Media Spanish Nickname in Honor of Mexico Deal

Share

Depending on where you stand on the political spectrum, President Donald Trump has one major trait that you will find either endearing or maddening.

For better or worse, Trump refuses to follow traditional presidential “decorum.” That’s been readily apparent since even before he won the election in 2016.

For the many people who voted for Trump, his refusal to be a feckless leader has been one of his best attributes.

Whereas past presidential administrations have kowtowed to the mainstream media, Trump has brazenly called them out. Frankly, it’s long overdue that the far-left mainstream media get some pushback.

Trump’s feud with the media took a decidedly entertaining turn during a Rose Garden press conference announcing a new North American trade deal, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. It will replace the North American Free Trade Agreement.

As with most things Trump, an air of unpredictability permeated the press conference. Those hoping for fireworks were not disappointed.

The president dealt with a pair of unruly reporters in positively Trumpian fashion. One reporter who kept trying to ask about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh had her mic physically removed. Trump told another reporter who did the same thing, “You’re not thinking. You never do.”

But perhaps the most “Trump” thing Trump did was blast the mainstream media with one of his patented nicknames.

We all know about “Crooked Hillary,” “Little Marco” and “The Failing New York Times.”

Now, we have the “Loco” news media.

During the Rose Garden press conference, Trump took some time to rip the media over his “unbelievably” unfair treatment.

“Oh, I think the press has treated me unbelievably unfairly,” Trump started. “In fact, when I won, I said the good thing is now the press finally gets it. Now they’ll finally treat me fairly.”

We all know that didn’t happen.

“They got worse. They’re worse now than ever,” the president continued. Again, love him or hate him, you can’t deny that the media have been exceptionally critical of his administration.

Do you like the way President Trump handles the news media?

“They’re ‘loco.’ But that’s OK,” Trump said while pointing to his head. “I put up with it.”

After telling a reporter to go ahead and ask a question, Trump revealed the origins of his “loco” nickname.

“I used that word because of the fact that we made a deal with Mexico,” the president said.

In just about every way conceivable, Trump has been a marked departure from previous presidents. It’s one of the key factors in his success.

The sooner the mainstream media come around to this fact and offer fairer coverage of Trump, the sooner they won’t have to deal with his blistering rhetoric.

Knowing how the mainstream media operate, I’m not going to hold my breath.
