President Donald Trump has declared next Wednesday, December 5th, as a National Day of Mourning for former president George H.W. Bush, the White House announced on Saturday.

As reported by Fox 10, Trump learned of Bush’s Friday passing overnight.

Fox 10 reports that the White House issued a statement which said that Trump made plans to call the late Bush’s son, former president George W. Bush, to offer condolences to his family on behalf of the Trumps and the nation.

President Trump and the first lady Melania Trump will be present at George H.W. Bush’s funeral at Washington National Cathedral, according to the statement.

“A state funeral is being arranged with all of the accompanying support and honors,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said.

The White House issued a statement on Saturday from President Trump and the first lady on the former president’s death.

“Through his essential authenticity, disarming wit, and unwavering commitment to faith, family, and country, President Bush inspired generations of his fellow Americans to public service — to be, in his words, “a thousand points of light” illuminating the greatness, hope, and opportunity of America to the world,” Trump’s statement reads.

Will you remember George H.W. Bush on Wednesday?

“Along with his full life of service to country, we will remember President Bush for his devotion to family—especially the love of his life, Barbara.”

“His example lives on, and will continue to stir future Americans to pursue a greater cause. Our hearts ache with his loss, and we, with the American people, send our prayers to the entire Bush family, as we honor the life and legacy of 41.”

George H.W. Bush, a World War II hero, served as president of the United States from 1989 to 1993.  He passed away late Friday night.  His wife of more than 70 years, Barbara Bush, passed away in April of this year.

“The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41′s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad,” his statement reads.

President Trump also paid respects to the late president at the G20 Summit on Saturday, saying that he was “a high quality man who truly loved his family.”

“He was a terrific guy and he’ll be missed.  He led a full life – a very exemplary life too, I will say.”
