Tim Allen Wastes No Time Riling Libs, Says Guns Coming to 'Last Man' Revival
When Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” returns to network TV, it’s bringing the Constitution with it — especially the Second Amendment.
According to an interview on Closer Weekly, Allen — whose show is returning to the primetime schedule this fall on Fox after being controversially canceled on ABC — says the series is going to be tackling gun rights when it comes back to the air.
It would be difficult if the show didn’t, of course. “Last Man Standing” stars Allen as Mike Baxter, the owner of a chain of sporting goods stores known as Outdoor Man.
Of course, Outdoor Man isn’t all that different than Dick’s Sporting Goods — and we know exactly what’s been going on with them.
In the interview, Allen mentioned that his character “owns a sporting-goods store that has firearms, so we’re going to have to deal with that somehow.”
Nevertheless, he’s excited to get back to pushing some very hot buttons.
“I’m excited because we have so much left in our tank,” Allen said. “There were a lot of stories we hadn’t gotten to.”
Allen — much like another network star who’s seen a recent resurrection, Roseanne Barr — is a supporter of Donald Trump, and “Last Man Standing” had often evinced conservative viewpoints even though Allen’s character was typically the only conservative in his family.
The show revolved around Baxter and his interactions with his three adult daughters and family, all of whom were considerably more liberal than he was.
While the series had performed well on ABC during its run, the show was canceled in spite of good ratings — leading many fans to believe that a sympathetic conservative character in the era of Trump simply wasn’t something that a network was willing to risk.
The success of “Roseanne” changed that matrix — and Gary Newman and Dana Walden, the chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, said they decided it a risk worth taking, particularly giving the outpouring of fan support.
“‘Last Man Standing’ ended too soon and the outcry from the fans has been deafening,” they said, according to Fox News.
“We’ve wanted to put the show back together since its final taping a year ago, and Tim never gave up hope either. Thanks to its millions of devoted viewers and the irrepressible Tim Allen, we haven’t seen the last of ‘Last Man Standing.'”
And apparently, we haven’t seen the last of Mike Baxter’s controversial opinions, either.
How the series is going to handle firearms in the wake of shootings in Parkland, Florida and Santa Fe, Texas is going to be interesting to see, particularly given the situation with Dick’s Sporting Goods.
However, given Allen’s opinion and how the show tends to slant, we think conservatives are going to be happy about it.
