Teenager Shows Every NFL Kneeler What Real Patriotism Looks Like at Olympics

Share

Unlike the perpetually aggrieved bellyachers in the National Football League who continually disrespect our country by kneeling during the national anthem, first-generation Korean American and Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim, 17, truly loves the United States of America.

During Kim’s appearance at the Winters Olympics this week — it was actually her first-ever appearance at the games — she wound up earning a gold medal for the impressive 98.25 score she notched in the women’s snowboard halfpipe event, according to a report by The Guardian.

And as the national anthem was played Tuesday during the medal ceremony that followed, this young patriot couldn’t help but break into tears.

“I was like, ‘I can’t cry right now. I can’t do this. I worked so hard on my eyeliner!'” she told the hosts of NBC’s “Today” that afternoon, describing the pride she had felt earlier that morning.

“It’s such an honor to just represent the U.S. and the country where my parents immigrated from,” she added, the pride beaming from her face. “This whole process has been amazing, and this journey has been so fun and full of so many memories that I will hold onto for the rest of my life.”

And yes, she obviously loves her ancestral country of South Korea as well, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Watch some of her Olympic performance below:

During the medal ceremony that followed, she she joyful tears over the achievement she had just notched, as well as the pride she felt representing both the United States and South Korea.

Is Chloe Kim a true patriot?

In an interview later with The Guardian, she spoke about about her experience growing up as a first-generation Korean American.

“When I was younger I struggled a little bit trying to understand my identity and who I wanted to be,” she said. “I think having my family be there through the whole process was so helpful. I’ve surrounded myself with such amazing people that they definitely made it much easier for me. I feel like I got to represent both the U.S. and Korea today.”

Notice the clear-cut pride this young lady and first-generation immigrant feels for America, and contrast it with the anti-American rhetoric and behavior of the multimillionaire athletes in the NFL.

The fact is Kim doesn’t have time to whine and complain because she’s too busy practicing to be the best and of course, being an average “American girl who loves shopping and video games and Hawaiian pizza,” as reported by The Guardian.

The pompous jerks in the NFL might want to consider pulling their heads out of the sand and take a few notes from this 17-year-old star, because as far as I’m concerned, they could learn a lot from her.
