Swetnick Lashes Out Against GOP After Credibility Is Destroyed by False Kavanaugh Claims

Share

This was always going to happen.

As Democrats, Trump detractors and the far left became more and more unhinged in their attacks on new Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, there was always going to be an equal and opposite reaction.

Those chickens have officially come home to roost.

Julie Swetnick, one of the women who had come forward accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault, is now lashing out again after her credibility was destroyed in the contentious battle over the confirmation of Kavanaugh.

Swetnick infamously claimed that she used to see lines of boys waiting outside a room for their turn to sexually assault incapacitated girls at high school parties. She claimed that she saw Kavanaugh and his friend, Mark Judge, waiting in those types of lines.

However, Swetnick could not say if Kavanaugh or Judge actually participated in any such assault.

Swetnick took another hit when the four witnesses she named could not corroborate the story. Of the four names she gave to NBC, two never responded, one is deceased and the other could not recall ever even knowing Swetnick.

As RealClear Politics reported, NBC interviewer Kate Snow had this important caveat before the interview aired: “NBC News, for the record, has not been able to independently verify her claims. There are things she told us on camera that differ from her written statements last week.”

It’s readily apparent why so many people were disillusioned by her accusations.

Now? Swetnick is firing back at anyone and everyone who would dare to question her recollection of incidents she claimed occurred decades ago. She released a statement through her lawyer, the infamous Michael Avenatti.

“As a sexual assault victim, I am disgusted and appalled by the way that I have been re-victimized over the last 2 weeks after I had the courage to come forward,” Swetnick’s statement begins.

Of note, it’s not just GOP members who have questioned Swetnick’s credibility. As Swetnick notes in her statements, even some Democratic leadership felt that the circus-like atmosphere surrounding her dubious testimony was “not helpful to the process.”

She then turned her attention towards prominent Republicans, naming President Donald Trump and Sens. Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, to name just a few.

Do you think Julie Swetnick will be regretting her accusations?

“They then had the audacity to claim our claims were not credible even though they never allowed any investigation to determine their credibility. How can they say the claims were not credible when they made no effort to discover whether they were or not?” Swetnick asks.

Finally, Swetnick turned her attention to Sen. Susan Collins, the Maine Republican who was the key vote in Kavanaugh’s confirmation. In her Senate speech announcing her vote for Kavanaugh, Collins called Swetnick’s allegations “outlandish.”

“Senator Susan Collins’ actions on Friday were especially shameful and an attack on all sexual assault victims,” Swetnick said. “She showed herself to be someone that cares more about politics than women and victims.”

Look, all sexual assault victims, and those who claim to be sexual assault victims, deserve to be heard. It’s the only way to learn the truth.

But by that same token, it’s on the victim to provide some shred of evidence, considering how serious sexual assault accusations are when it comes to the consequences for the accused’s life and career.

Julie Swetnick had her chance to be heard. But the only people she should be upset with are herself and her lawyer for failing to produce pertinent evidence to back up their claims.
