Smug Amal Clooney Now Blaming Trump for Violence Against Journalists in Other Countries

Share

Riddle me this: What’s worse than a smug Hollywood elite?

A whiny and smug Hollywood elite.

Amal Clooney, wife of the equally obnoxious George Clooney, aptly fits that description.

According to a Vanity Fair report, Amal Clooney took her whining and smugness to a whole new level at the United Nations Correspondents Association Awards on Wednesday night.

It’s no secret that the Clooneys have been frequent and vocal critics of President Donald Trump, but Amal’s latest anti-Trump screed is even further out there than their usual leftist insanity.

Clooney, a human rights attorney, whined that journalists in 2018 are “under attack like never before.”

She was referring to dangerous regimes in foreign countries like North Korea, which is one thing.

But then Clooney had the audacity to blame Trump for the harrowing conditions of journalists in foreign countries.

“The U.S. president has given such regimes a green light and labeled the press in this country the ‘enemy of the people,'” Clooney said.

Excuse me? What does Trump have to do with autocratic regimes in the Philippines, Hungary, Turkey and Brazil?

The answer to anyone with even a shred of truthfulness should be a resounding “nothing.” Trump’s criticism of liberal media outlets in this country for bias or “fake news” is in no way responsible for the imprisonment or murder of journalists overseas.

Clooney also snidely insinuated that Trump was at least partially to blame for the death of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

“Of course, two months ago a Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi walked into a consulate in Istanbul and was brutally tortured to death. In many of the cases that I have worked on too, I have seen journalists and opposition figures ruthlessly targeted so that they can no longer criticize leaders,” she said.

“You are being jailed at a higher rate than ever,” Clooney continued. “And you are dying while covering wars, not just because you walk, unarmed, into some of the most dangerous places on earth. But because you are being targeted for exposing crimes committed in war. For speaking the truth that perpetrators find the most difficult to hear.”

Apparently, however, Clooney is under the impression that Trump is the reason these regimes, many of which were installed long before Trump ever took office, silence dissident journalists.

At best, Clooney is demonstrating a stark lack of understanding of world politics. At worst, she is being willfully disingenuous for the expressed intent of attacking Trump. Either way, it’s not the best look for her.
