Florida County Sheriff Lambastes Gillum over His 'Disgusting' Attacks on Law Enforcement
Florida residents trying to decide whom to support in the Sunshine State’s gubernatorial race may want to listen to what Brevard County’s Sheriff Wayne Ivey has to say.
He’s very opinionated on the subject and you won’t come away confused on where he stands on the issue.
He told “Fox & Friends Saturday” the Democratic nominee for governor, Andrew Gillum, makes “disgusting” comments about law enforcement.
Yes, it more than appears this sheriff doesn’t like Gillum, but there’s more.
There’s a good reason why Ivey goes off on Gillum: The Democrat is absolutely clueless about what law enforcement is.
Here’s what Gillum said on the liberal podcast “Pod Save America” said that sparked such passionate remarks from Ivey.
“Law enforcement society cannot work and, quite frankly, law enforcement can’t do it’s job, if it does not have a trusting relationship with the community. At the time that a law enforcement official has to go to a weapon, to a gun, to a baton, to a Taser, then they have already have to go too far by their very presence,” Gillum said.
What is with the left that they seem to not want law enforcement of any kind, ever?
Ivey, on the other hand, set things straight in short order.
Ivey pointed out that the people of Tallahassee, the Florida state capital where Gillum currently holds the mayor’s office, already know what kind of a job Gillum is doing when it comes to law enforcement — and it’s not good.
Ivey stated: “The crime rate speaks for itself in Tallahassee. As you know, It’s one of the worst in the state of Florida.”
“I think the murder rate is the most concerning thing, when they’ve had highest murder rate in history in the city there. So I think you can see pretty easily under his watch, what the crime rate’s done and murder rate’s done. And that’s certainly not what we want for the state of Florida,” Ivey said.
And then he really lit Gillum up.
“Andrew Gillum has no idea what it takes to serve as a law enforcement officer. As such his comments about law enforcement officers and those that wear our badge, they’re a disgrace. They’re disgusting,” said Ivey.
“The men and women of law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect themselves, our citizens. And for him to say that if they go and take a tool off their belt to protect themselves or one of our community, they’ve gone too far — I personally think it’s him going too far with his anti-cop rhetoric and his anti-cop mentality,” he continued.
This isn’t Ivey’s first rodeo. In June of 2017 The Orlando Weekly tried to criticize Ivey by stating a comment he made in a video about “good guys with guns” was “incredibly wrong.”
Here’s what Ivey said in a video to spark that criticism.
“Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, the self-described ‘most politically incorrect sheriff in the country,’ released a video Wednesday stating that the best way to fight terrorists is for more citizen vigilantes to start packing heat.”
I don’t know – I think I really like this guy and if he ever decides to move to my county and run for sheriff, I would love to support him.
As for the good folks of Florida?
According to WCTV, a Georgia station that covers northern Florida, a poll released last week shows the Republican candidate for governor, Rep. Ron DeSantis, leading Gillum 48 to 45 percent. With the margin of error being 3.46 percent, the race is a statistical tie.
However, since Gillum has been leading the polls since winning the Democratic primary in August, the development does not bode well for his campaign as Election Day approaches.
It looks like the Florida voters may share Ivey’s views and prefer to have a governor who isn’t so squishy and kumbaya on enforcing the law.
Good for them.
