Seattle Law Student Fires Back After School Suspends ICE Externships
A student at the Seattle University School of Law slammed the school for its political decision to remove the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency from its externship program.
The school ended the externship after receiving a complaint from a student who also created an online petition to shut it down, according to Fox News.
The program allowed students to work with ICE’s Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Washington.
The school’s program director, Jill Dutton, justified the cancellation by claiming ICE could force students to act “unethically or unlawfully,” according to the school’s newspaper, The Seattle Spector.
“We felt it was necessary to discuss and reflect on what we were hearing regarding ICE policies and practices,” Dutton said in a statement.
Apparently, the “policies and practices” of ICE weren’t good enough for Dutton, despite existing evidence of the agency’s effectiveness.
ICE exists to enforce the law, not break the law. The term “enforcement” is in the name “Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
If Dutton was concerned about unlawful behavior, she would be promoting ICE, which routinely stops cross-border criminal activity.
In reality, the decision to remove the program was a political one, as pointed out by Thomas Reinhard, a third-year student at the school.
“It just seems to me to be just a political maneuver because they disagree with the president’s enforcement of border policy,” Reinhard said Saturday on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

The law school’s decision to remove the program and its failure to provide an adequate explanation shows its blatant political bias.
Of course, it’s common and expected for colleges and universities to hold a far-left bias, but it still deserves to be called out.
“We’re not forcing students to extern with ICE,” Reinhard said. “But that opportunity should be available for students who want to pursue a path in law enforcement.”
Seattle University law students will have one less opportunity available to them because some college administrators don’t like Trump’s policies.
