Sarah Sanders Smacks Down CNN for Hysteria Over Trump Hats at Military Base
Usually, when you’re able to say, “this tweet didn’t age well,” it takes weeks, months, sometimes even years for the opportunity to arise.
However — and God bless him — Donald Trump has shortened the news cycle in so many ways. This isn’t just because of the fact that our 45th president has put his foot down on some hitherto-unknown accelerator which makes current events blur out the window. Rather, it’s because the organizations charged with reporting those current events have jammed their foot on the gas pedal of erroneousness.
Take, for instance, this tweet from NBC News on Christmas Day:

And they weren’t the only ones who reported this “story” until it turned out that President Trump did visit troops during Christmastime, he just didn’t announce his trip in advance. So, they apologized for the mistake and realized they were — oh, who are we kidding? Of course they didn’t:

And they weren’t the only ones. CNN’s approach was typically CNN-like.

So, what’s the issue?
Pentagon guidelines say that “active duty personnel may not engage in partisan political activities and all military personnel should avoid the inference that their political activities imply or appear to imply DoD sponsorship, approval, or endorsement of a political candidate, campaign, or cause,” according to CNN.
“Video footage and the written report of Trump’s visit with service members in Iraq showed the President signing Make America Great Again’ hats and an embroidered patch that read ‘Trump 2020.’
“A US military official told CNN the MAGA hats that Trump signed at the Ramstein Air Base event in Germany were personal and brought there by military personnel in hopes of getting an autograph. The official contended that it was not a campaign event and that the hats were used as support for Trump, not as a statement of political support.
“Although the event was not an official Trump re-election campaign event, the President did declare his candidacy for re-election in 2020 soon after his inauguration.”
Are you kidding me?
It wasn’t just me who thought this was ridiculous. Take White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, who pointed out the obvious.

Yes, if they can’t attack him on not visiting the troops, they can attack him on signing caps that the troops brought with them.
Thankfully, we have people who can still smack the media down for the hysteria they brought to the whole affair.
