Sarah Sanders Responds to Potential Hillary 2020 Run with Brutal Yet Hilarious Line

Share

To White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Hillary Clinton could make this the most wonderful time of the year.

As political junkies are no doubt aware, the former Democratic standard-bearer is currently on a bit of a media tour, one that’s been every bit as delightfully disastrous as the tour for her book “What Happened.”

From her remarks about how “civility” can only return if the Democrats retake at least one house of Congress to her contention that her husband’s sexual relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky while he was president wasn’t an abuse of power because Lewinsky “was an adult,” two things are abundantly clear.

First, Hillary Clinton is the same gaffe machine that gave conservatives the “basket of deplorables” and gave the White House to Donald J. Trump.

Second, she still wants that White House very, very badly.

In an article for Politico suitably titled “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Hillary?” aide Philippe Reines said he thought that there was the possibility that she would run again.

Do you think Hillary will run in 2020?

“Chalking the loss up to her being a failed candidate is an oversimplification,” Reines told Politico. “She is smarter than most, tougher than most, she could raise money easier than most, and it was an absolute fight to the death.”

“It’s somewhere between highly unlikely and zero,” he concluded, “but it’s not zero.”

That thought was picked up by The Daily Caller, and it had the press secretary thinking it was time to put up the tree and whip up some eggnog:

“Christmas coming early this year?” she tweeted.

As one of Hillary’s younger supporters might say, “YASSS.”

That’s not just because I want another 12-18 months of low-level laughter. When Clinton is included in polls of possible 2020 challengers, she does pretty well. A poll this summer had her at 18 percent, second to former Vice President Joe Biden’s 32 percent.

Even without her being included, polls don’t show Biden cracking that 30-odd percent number, which is music to the ears of Clinton’s myriad partisans. Uncle Joe is just as gaffe-prone as Hillary is, but he brings the extra baggage of being boring and an old white establishment male in an election cycle where that looks to be toxic among the party faithful.

Among the other candidates, nobody really stands out. Sen. Bernie Sanders was the only one in double digits in the CNN poll, and Clinton already beat him once (granted, with an assist from Debbie Wasserman Schultz, but still). So, she could rather easily get the nomination — and put a gift under the tree for every conservative.

Will she get into the race? The chances certainly aren’t zero, and I’d rate it as better than “highly unlikely.” But perhaps that’s just me, hearing the carols and seeing the first snowfall of the Christmas season a little bit early.
