Sanders Sends CNN Into Frenzy With Hilarious Comment on Pelosi's Face
There was plenty said at and about President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address as president on Tuesday, but one of the headlines came from someone who didn’t say a word: Namely, Nancy Pelosi.
The California representative and House Minority Leader made news simply by sitting there, wearing one of the most mephitic frowns known to mankind.
To make things even worse, the frown was most prominent during a portion of the speech when the president was discussing interparty unity.
During an appearance on CNN on Wednesday morning, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that she didn’t think it was anything unusual, however. Instead, she said it was part of the territory with Pelosi.
Sanders made the remarks after she was asked “how can (the president) unify that room?”
“I think doing exactly what he did last night,” Sanders said.
“And I’m going to be a little bit in disagreement with you; I think Nancy Pelosi looks like that all the time,” she continued. “I think she should smile a lot more often. I think the country would better for it.”
It wasn’t just Pelosi who needed to smile: “She seems to embody the kind of bitterness that belongs in the Democrat Party right now,” Sanders added. “They need to decide, do they love America more than they hate this president?”

You can bet that sent CNN’s viewers into a frenzy. And, indeed, we saw a lot of negative reactions using one Sanders face on Twitter:

However, Sanders’ remark was hardly an exaggeration. While Pelosi’s mega-frown may have made news, at least she didn’t storm out like Illinois Rep. Louis Gutierrez when Republicans chanted “USA! USA!” (Gutierrez would later call Trump’s speech “racist,” a word which has officially lost all meaning.)
So, some Democrats clearly don’t love America more than they hate President Trump. However, one hopes that the party at large comes to its senses and embraces the spirit of bipartisanship that Trump laid out during his speech.
If not, there’s always the spirit embodied by Pelosi and Gutierrez: Grinding their teeth and abandoning America until a Democrat is in the White House. Then, they’ll be willing to talk about “bipartisanship” and patriotism again.
One hopes that’s not the case, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise us — and it would say everything about the Democrat Party and its priorities in 2018.
