'Real Housewives' Star Ordered Deported from United States
For some reason that is inexplicable to many Americans, the “Real Housewives” franchise of reality show programming has been incredibly popular on the Bravo network.
While some people may enjoy watching the petty and trivial exploits of the wealthy and nouveau riche individuals competing with each other to see who can be the pettiest person, many others consider such programming to be little more than trash that compels others to try and emulate the lifestyles they portray on TV.
Indeed, the seemingly urgent need to display a flamboyant lifestyle and keep up appearances is even quite apparent within the ranks of those who “star” in such programs, and can eventually lead to dire consequences as those caught up in the race will sometimes make foolish decisions in order to stay ahead of their friends, with the perfect example being former “Real Housewives of New Jersey” stars Giuseppe “Joe” Giudice and his wife, Theresa.
NBC News reported that 46-year-old Giudice has been ordered by a federal immigration judge to be deported to his native nation of Italy upon completion of his sentence in federal prison after being convicted on multiple counts of fraud.
Giudice, who has 30 days to appeal the ruling of the immigration judge, is set to be released from a federal prison in March 2019, upon which time he will have to leave America.
He is nearing the conclusion of a 41-month sentence he received after he and his wife pleaded guilty to a whopping 41 counts of various types of fraud that were related to a conspiracy to illegally obtain fraudulent loans and home mortgages. In other words, defrauding lenders in order to live above their means and keep up the appearance of a wealthy lifestyle.
The guilty pleas came in 2014 after the Giudices were indicted on charges related to bankruptcy — in which he was accused of attempting to hide assets and income — and bank, mail and wire fraud, as well as for Giudice’s failure to file tax returns for the years of 2004 to 2008.
Theresa Giudice was the first of the couple to do the time for the crimes, serving an 11-month sentence at a federal prison in Connecticut prior to being released in December 2015. Her husband began to serve his much longer sentence — initially in New Jersey, prior to being transferred to Pennsylvania — shortly after Theresa’s release.
Theresa Giudice was not present for the immigration court hearing on Wednesday when it was revealed that her husband would be deported, and she has yet to make any official comment on the matter.
However, during a recent “Real Housewives” reunion show, she had insinuated that she wouldn’t particularly mind relocating to Italy at some unspecified point in the future, suggesting the pair may have had an inkling that a potential deportation could eventually become a reality.
“I mean, Italy’s a beautiful place to live. I wouldn’t mind, you know, I’m just saying,” she told the host of the reunion show in January. “Listen, whatever God has planned for me, that’s what’s going to happen. I will embrace it the best I can.”
According to E!News, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency had already placed a detainer on Giudice when he first began to serve his prison sentence.
That detainer means that he will be transferred from the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons to ICE upon his release in 2019, though it is unclear if he will be immediately deported or if a date will be specified later. Obviously, that depends upon whether he appeals the deportation order and the success or failure of such an appeal.
That said, while Theresa Giudice may be taking the potential deportation of her convicted husband as a possible good thing, the same cannot be said for at least one of the couple’s co-stars, Caroline Manzo, who expressed great disappointment in the ruling in a statement, and suggested that his punishment wasn’t warranted by the crimes he had been convicted of committing.
“Wow, this makes me sad. Joe has made mistakes, taken responsibility for his actions and has served his time. He has four beautiful girls that need their father in their lives, and my heart hurts for them,” she said in an interview with E!News, adding that her friend had a “good heart” and was not violent or a threat. “I’m not quite sure how his mistakes warrant such harsh punishment.”
This now-infamous duo thought they needed to keep up the appearance of an ultra-wealthy lifestyle like their friends, and committed some rather significant crimes in the process of doing so. Now they are both convicted felons and will have to face the many consequences of their foolish actions for the rest of their lives, which very well may be spent outside of this nation.
