Pastor Who Torched Illinois Legislators with Viral Pro-Life Prayer Now Has Message for America
Pastor Cory Musgrave took the nation by storm after a video showing him praying before the Illinois House went viral.
Musgrave was asked to pray at an Illinois legislative session after being invited as Republican state Rep. Darren Bailey’s guest.
The state had recently passed the “Reproductive Health Act,” a bill that repealed the state’s ban on partial-birth abortion. Because of the bill, Illinois residents can now abort their babies up to the ninth month of pregnancy — and force insurance companies to pay for the procedure.
Musgrave, standing only feet from the Illinois lawmakers, prayed a fiery request: “God Almighty, I make an appeal to Heaven today, to You the perfect judge, the One who presides over Heaven’s court.”
He made it clear that he was referring to the abortion bill, saying, “I ask You to rise up, oh God, and judge Illinois for the sanctioned destruction of the innocent unborn.”
Musgrave’s prayer, which lasted just under four minutes, stands out as a striking display of courage that all those who value innocent life should seek to imitate.

I had the privilege to speak with Musgrave after the video caught the attention of The Western Journal. He told me that since the prayer, he has received emails and phone calls from all over the world and that “almost all of it has been positive.”
But the conversation took a serious turn when we discussed the issue at hand.
Disregard for life isn’t just an Illinois problem, Musgrave said. Americans in general are having a “huge issue taking responsibility for their actions.”
Abortion is a “spiritual issue” because “fundamentally, God is the creator of life,” he said. “And God takes seriously the killing of innocent life.”
“Abortion is ultimately a selfish act,” Musgrave argued, because “we are sacrificing kids for our own convenience.”
He isn’t interested in letting people of faith off the hook.
“This is is a very serious topic that most Christians don’t take seriously enough,” Musgrave said.
Musgrave noted that Republicans are also to blame for historically not fighting hard enough for the pro-life part of their platform.
He called out former Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner for signing HB 40 in 2017. The bill greatly expanded the use of Illinois taxpayer dollars to pay for abortion procedures.
The Republican Rauner lost the governorship the following year to Democrat J.B. Pritzker.
