NYT Accidentally Torpedoes New Yorker's Ramirez Hit Piece on Kavanaugh
The New York Times, apparently unintentionally, took a jab at The New Yorker’s hit piece on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh regarding a new woman who alleges Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her.
On Sunday, The New Yorker published an article regarding another woman who is now alleging Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her decades ago.
The accuser, Deborah Ramirez, claimed the incident happened when both she and Kavanaugh were freshmen at Yale.
She claimed that she became inebriated at a party which Kavanaugh was also attending.
Shen then claimed a male student exposed himself to her. “I remember a penis being in front of my face,” she said.
Ramirez also admitted that she was intoxicated and there are gaps in her memories of the evening.
Naturally, the piece garnered plenty of attention from Kavanaugh opponents, like this post from the National Women’s Law Center.

Tellingly, though, Ramirez’s story was also on the The New York Times’ radar, but even The Times’ struggled to corroborate her story.
“The Times had interviewed several dozen people over the past week in an attempt to corroborate her story, and could find no one with firsthand knowledge,” The Times reported inside another story published Sunday about Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford’s scheduled testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The New York Times added that Ramirez’s classmates also failed to corroborate her story when she contact them.
“Ms. Ramirez herself contacted former Yale classmates asking if they recalled the incident and told some of them that she could not be certain Mr. Kavanaugh was the one who exposed himself,” according to The New York Times.
The New Yorker had a little bit more luck getting a few students to talk about the alleged incident, but reporters Jane Meyer and Ronan Farrow also could not find anyone with firsthand knowledge.
Meanwhile, despite the flaw in the story, it only fueled the anti-Kavanaugh protests in Washington.

The biggest lead The New Yorker has so far is one unidentified student who was not even at the party.
However, there are a lot of people who told The New Yorker they were at the party — and who deny Ramirez’s story.
“I don’t think Brett would flash himself to Debbie, or anyone, for that matter,” one of the alleged witnesses said according to The New Yorker.
Some of the students who were allegedly at the party and some people who were close to both Kavanaugh and Ramirez created a statement denying her allegations.
“We can say with confidence that if the incident Debbie alleges ever occurred, we would have seen or heard about it—and we did not,” the statement read.
It seems like the establishment media went through a lot of trouble to uncover little evidence to support Ramirez’s story.
At least The New York Times was able to acknowledge that. And it might not have intended to torpedo The New Yorker’s story with that admission, but it did it anyway.
