Normally Quiet Hatch Goes for the Throat After New Kavanaugh 'Smear Campaign'

Share

During his four decades of service in the United States Senate, Utah Republican Orrin Hatch has accomplished quite a bit and established quite the reputation.

He is officially the longest-serving Republican senator in the country’s history.

But for all of his deeds, Hatch has always succeeded with a somewhat subdued and quiet demeanor. He has always been more of an action versus words type of guy.

But whatever quiet or calm that Hatch typically exhibits, he is still a staunch conservative with an unwavering sense of right and wrong. So when he sees the far left doing wrong, he can’t help but call it out.

And call it out he did.

Hatch scorched Democrats and the far left in a series of blistering Twitter comments on Monday that included his news release describing their campaign against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Specifically, Hatch had been set off by another accuser emerging to point the finger at Kavanaugh in an article in The New Yorker.

“Last night, Senate Democrats continued their smear campaign against Judge Brett Kavanaugh with a thinly sourced article accusing Judge Kavanaugh of conduct that no eyewitness can even corroborate,” Hatch said in the opening salvo of the barrage.

Did Hatch hit the target with these Twitter posts?

He wasn’t even close to being done excoriating Senate Democrats.

“Rather than bringing the matter to the attention of committee investigators, Democrats coordinated with members of the media to drop the story in the most dramatic and damaging way possible.”

Hatch also ripped the Senate Democrats’ underhanded tactics of “playing hide the ball” in the Kavanaugh ordeal.

Hatch felt compelled to break down the Senate Democrats’ playbook in another scathing tweet.

Hatch noted that that the new accuser only came forward because Senate Democrats “came looking.” Hatch also skewered the idea of the new accuser needed “6 days of carefully assessing her memories” with a Democratic official. And the kicker, Hatch rightfully homed in on the fact that even the New York Times — a rabidly anti-Trump newspaper — admitted that there was “no one with firsthand knowledge.”

Those are all irrefutable and damning points Hatch makes.

Hatch’s most poignant points were reserved for last.

Hatch is 100 percent correct. Every accuser does deserve to be heard. A person who has committed sexual assault shouldn’t be on the Supreme Court.

“But the way my Democratic colleagues have approached these allegations makes clear that the driving objective here is not truth, but politics,” Hatch said. And it’s hard to argue otherwise.

“Senate Democrats are demeaning both the Senate and the Supreme Court thought their partisan games and transparent attempts at character assassination,” Hatch said in his final tweet in the thread.

Most importantly, Hatch just seems ready to move on.

“We should hear from Dr. Ford on Thursday as planned. Then we should vote.”

It’s hard to argue with anything Hatch said in his Twitter screed. Kavanaugh’s accusers should be heard.

But to ascribe innocence and guilt so concretely at this point? Truth and fairness are clearly not what Senate Democrats are aiming for.
