News Organization Cuts David Hogg's Bizarre Salute, Sparks Social Media Fire

Share

Liberals really can’t handle the truth.

In one of the more bizarre moments of Saturday’s “March for Our Lives” anti-gun demonstration in Washington, underage liberal heartthrob David Hogg set the social media world on fire with a strange, fist-in-the air salute that evoked memories of fascists long dead.

It was a gesture so weird – childish bravado? an unconscious homage to past thuggery? – that one of the most liberal news outlets in the country decided for some reason not to run it. And social media commenters erupted.

Hogg, of course, is the senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who’s emerged as the ubiquitous face of the anti-gun movement in the aftermath of the Feb. 14 shootings in Parkland, Florida.

As a kid who hung up on the White House when he was called with an invitation to meet with President Donald Trump, and an attacker of Republicans like Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, he’s a hero to the liberals at CNN and the other mainstream media.

Unfortunately for young Mr. Hogg, that puts him in the kind of limelight few people his age can handle without making serious mistakes and having them magnified for the national scale.

Hogg already made one that attracted a Twitter scolding from conservative actor James Woods for a Twitter posting pushing armbands that looked suspiciously Nazi-like. At Saturday’s “March for Our Lives” he made another — and social media is having a field day.

The moment came at the end of Hogg’s speech at the anti-gun gathering on the National Mall – one that opened with a totally gratuitous insult to Marco Rubio and closed with the salute that’s going to follow Hogg for the rest of his life.

This is what it looked like in real time.

As the Twitter poster noted, that’s not a pose that will endear him to the hearts of normal Americans.

And that’s probably why at least one liberal news outlet – BuzzFeed – cut the bizarre moment from the end of Hogg’s speech entirely.

This is how the speech actually ended, as one alert Twitter user grabbed it.

This is how it ended in BuzzFeed world. (Feel free skip the oration and jump to the close.)

And social media users noticed.

Are the media trying to sanitize gun-grabbers?
No, they apparently didn’t want to show it.

What’s funny about this is that BuzzFeed is the website that’s allegedly so devoted to transparency that it felt it necessary to publish the entire document that became known as the “Trump dossier” in January, 2017, before Trump was even inaugurated to the presidency.

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson made short work of the website’s editor when he showed up to try to justify that decision. And social media users cut BuzzFeed to shreds on this one.

Young Mr. Hogg might be the most p.r.-savvy kid Stoneman Douglas High has ever produced, but he’s obviously got a thing to learn about the optics of American politics.

Maybe, while this latest iteration of anti-gun hysteria lasts, the liberal adults leading Hogg and his classmates around can give him a crash course in public gestures American’s don’t make when they want to be taken seriously in politics.

Maybe his AP history class might have a clue too.
