Needy Cubans Reduced to Using Condoms for Fishing, Birthday Balloons, Wine Making
It may not be polite conversation, but everybody knows what the condom was designed for.
Like a lot of things, though, the prophylactic of procreation is a bit flexible when it comes to creative uses — and the people of Cuba are discovering every single alternate application for condoms after decades of communist rule.
Yes, while the far left in America is busy promoting socialist candidates like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and telling voters to “feel the Bern,” it’s Cubans who are getting chaffed.
With even basic supplies rare on the beautiful but impoverished Caribbean island, people living under the glories of real-life radical leftism have resorted to using condoms as makeshift materials.
“Cubans use them to fish, ferment wine, fix punctures or tie up hair; latex condoms have become the ultimate multipurpose tool on the Communist-run island where shortages of basic goods have forced locals to become masters of invention,” explained Reuters.
People may live on around a dollar a day and grocery shelves may be bare, but the oh-so-wise communist government has at least been able to keep condoms available because of the country’s “focus on sexual health.”
“(C)ondoms, both those domestically produced and imported from Asia, are in relatively bountiful supply, partly due to the Caribbean country’s focus on sexual health. Government subsidies mean they are cheap; a box of three condoms costs just one Cuban peso,” reported Reuters.
At first glance, the creative use of condoms sounds kind of cheeky. When you read about actual instances of latex being re-purposed, however, the depressingly grim reality of communism begins to sink in.
“At concerts and children’s birthday parties, condoms blown up to large balloons with a whitish hue drift through the air,” the news wire stated.
“Along the coast, floats made from several inflated rubbers tied together bob on the sea, carrying baited hooks of fishing lines,” the report continued. “These allow those fishermen confined to Cuba’s shores due to authorities’ strict controls on boats for fear of illegal emigration to send their hooks further out.”
Think about that for a moment.
Not only is communist Cuba such an oppressive nightmare that the government must restrict fishing boats to keep people from fleeing en masse, those same desperate fishermen are stuck using bottom-barrel condoms — essentially, disposable trash — just to continue fishing.
That’s a far cry from the alleged “paradise” portrayed by leftists like filmmaker Michael Moore. A decade ago, Moore was busy singing Castro’s praises and bragging about how amazing Cuban healthcare was in his not-so-accurate documentary “Sicko.”
Here’s a question for Moore: If socialism and its ugly twin communism are so great, why has it failed everywhere it is actually implemented?
Here’s another: What does it say about a system when condoms, something most Americans don’t give a second thought to, are a key piece of survival and citizens have to scrounge for scraps just to get by?
How many refugees seem to be fleeing the “horrors” of capitalism in Florida in a desperate attempt to reach Cuba?
How many people are risking their lives in the other direction, terrified of even one more day under the communism, and doing whatever it takes to reach America?
The truth about socialism and communism is much more dark than the modern left will ever admit. It’s time to wrap up the dangerous narratives being spread by Ocasio-Cortez and others like her before America catches something that might take decades to cure.
