Nancy Pelosi Wastes No Time in Going After Trump's Attorney General Pick

Share

The latest hit from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who is now the speaker-designate, is a sign that we can expect the coming year to bring more of the same nastiness too often seen from the left.

On Friday, President Donald Trump announced he will nominate William Barr to replace Jeff Sessions as attorney general.

For some, Barr is the perfect pick for the job.

He already has experience in the position, having served as attorney general from 1991 to 1993 under President George H.W. Bush.

A day after Trump’s announcement, however, Pelosi issued a statement calling Barr a “partisan hack.”

Her statement began with immediate swipes at the integrity of both Trump and Barr.

“The President’s proposed nomination of Mr. Barr is deeply concerning,” Pelosi said. “Barr has spent the past two years auditioning for this job by stoking partisan attacks on our nation’s law enforcement community, and encouraging the President to use the Justice Department as a political weapon to pursue his rivals and undermine investigations into Trump and his family’s scandals.”

Wait. It’s been the right attacking the law enforcement community?

Among other other examples, there is the controversial anti-cop painting, portraying them as animals, that Pelosi’s House Democrats fought to keep on display in a tunnel connecting the Capitol with two House office buildings, reported The Hill.

And speaking of political weapons, does anyone remember the IRS scandal under President Barack Obama? The one that targeted conservative and tea party groups?

Pelosi went on, “Barr’s constant attempts to weaken and undercut the credibility of the Special Counsel investigation cast serious doubt on his ability to oversee this critical investigation.” Barr has been publicly critical of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigative team picks, based on their political contributions to the left.

Do you like Trump's choice of William Barr as attorney general?

“This nomination is the latest in the President’s pattern of installing partisan hacks in the highest reaches of our government who will happily do his bidding,” she continued. “The American people expect assurances that this nominee will ensure that justice is pursued, the rule of law is respected and the Mueller investigation will continue, unhindered by the President or his cronies.”

Note she has no problem with Mueller’s team being Democratic contributors. Apparently that may “ensure justice is pursued.”

The California congresswoman concluded with the following: “Our new Democratic Majority will bring a new dawn of openness, transparency and unity to the Congress. When we take the gavel, restoring the health of our democracy will be H.R. 1, so that we can clean up corruption to make Washington work For The People.”

Transparency? This from the woman who famously said of the Affordable Care Act, “We have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it”?

Unity? The Democrats vowed to vote no on any pick before now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was even nominated. Even Pelosi’s statement about Trump’s pick of Barr does anything but support “unity” in Congress.

Despite her hypocritical attacks on the Trump’s pick of Barr for AG, it is unlikely that Pelosi or the rest of the Democrats will be able to stop his confirmation. With Republicans holding the majority in the Senate, Barr should be confirmed, although there is no guarantee that the left won’t use the usual smear tactics in the meantime.
