Nancy Pelosi Somehow Manages To Rail Against Historic Jobs Report

Share

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi must have no shame. In the face of the best jobs report numbers in history, the California Democrat claimed “the soaring cost of living for families continues to lead to stagnant real wage growth for workers.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported new jobs grew at more than 190,000 the expected rate in August to 201,000. That puts the United States at 3.9 percent unemployment.

Meanwhile, wages grew 2.9 percent over the previous year.

Yet Pelosi somehow came up with a negative spin for the undeniably positive economic news.

“While the wealthy and well-connected fill their pockets, hard-working men and women are struggling to keep up with everyday needs that are getting more and more expensive,” she said in a statement. “Families across the country are facing soaring health costs from the GOP’s sabotage campaign and skyrocketing prescription drug prices from the same Big Pharma companies that were just handed massive unpaid-for tax breaks by the GOP tax scam for the rich. But instead of fighting for families and seniors, the Republican Congress wants to add even more to the deficit with even bigger tax breaks for the wealthiest 1 percent, hoping to force cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

“The American people deserve better than a Republican Congress and Administration that ransacks their pocketbooks and futures again and again, just to enrich the GOP’s special interest friends.  Democrats are fighting For The People: lowering their health care costs and prescription drug prices, increasing pay through strong economic growth by rebuilding America, and cleaning up corruption to make Washington work for the American people.”

While Pelosi might not think so, there’s no denying the latest jobs numbers are quite an accomplishment. Even former President Barack Obama thinks so. So much so that he’s taking credit for the improved numbers. Maybe he forgot to send the memo to Pelosi to get on board with the narrative.

Liberal media outlets are also touting the employment gains. CNBC’s Carl Quintanilla tweeted BlackRock’s praise of the development as being “the greatest run of job gains in US history.”

President Donald Trump weighed in as well, taking a well-deserved bow for the accomplishment.

It is clear that Pelosi wants to regain her title as speaker of the House so badly that she will attack anything resembling Republican success.

Time recently ran a 6,000-word article on Pelosi that declared she didn’t care what people thought of her. Maybe that makes it easy for the minority leader to issue gloomy statements about the economy that don’t match the facts.

Convenient.
