Is Nancy Pelosi Seriously Trying To Blame Republicans for AOC's 'Concentration Camps' Gaffe?

Share

When democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made her disrespectful, inflammatory comparison this week between Nazi-era concentration camps and migrant detention centers on America’s southern border, the internet went bonkers.

“The United States is running concentration camps on our southern border, and that is exactly what they are,” Ocasio-Cortez said in an Instagram video Monday night.

“If that doesn’t bother you … I want to talk to the people that are concerned enough with humanity to say that ‘never again’ means something.”

The freshman lawmaker from New York got support from some in the liberal establishment media, but she was ripped to virtual shreds by a number of people concerned over her apparent Holocaust reference.

The point is that her insensitive comments made the rounds rather quickly.

But apparently her boss, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, was completely nonplussed.

When asked about Ocasio-Cortez’s comments, Pelosi not only denied being “up to date” on the situation — which is utterly embarrassing on its own — but also used the opportunity to blame Republicans.

I’m not even joking, although I really wish I were.

The evidently clueless House speaker was asked about Ocasio-Cortez during a Wednesday breakfast hosted by The Christian Science Monitor.

Do you think Pelosi should condemn AOC for her comments?

“These members of Congress, they come to represent their districts and their point of view and they take responsibility for the statements that they make,” the California Democrat said, according to the New York Post.

“I’m not up to date with her most recent remarks,” Pelosi told reporters. “I saw them on the news, but I haven’t spoken to her about that.”

Though I don’t believe Pelosi was being completely honest with that convenient answer, Ocasio-Cortez has said so many outrageous things since she took office that it is, in fact, hard to keep up sometimes.

But Pelosi used her decades of political prowess to segue into an attack on Republicans, implying they’ll misrepresent anything said by Democrats.

“I do have some comments to make to my caucus writ large about the political nature of how politically charged the atmosphere is so, understand that while the Republicans have no interest in holding the president accountable for his words, they will misrepresent anything that you say, just if you have one word in the sentence that they can exploit,” Pelosi said, TheBlaze reported.

Pelosi, of course, is completely wrong.

Ocasio-Cortez’s comments were so disturbing that the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York wrote a letter of condemnation offering to educate the lawmaker on the horrors of the Holocaust.

The group, which actually represents dozens of Jewish organizations in the New York metro area, said it was “deeply disturbed” by her comparison and the fact that she mentioned the phrases “never again” and “concentration camp,” which are “synonymous with” the Holocaust.

For the sake of her party, Pelosi should probably pay more attention to what Ocasio-Cortez is saying.

Blaming Republicans just makes her look lazy, weak and totally unconcerned with how Holocaust survivors and their families might be feeling about the whole controversy.
