MSNBC Anchor Stephanie Ruhle Cheerfully Says 'It's About Time We Get a Recession'
Leave it to a liberal host at a liberal network.
As the left’s Russia “collusion” story vanishes as a weapon against President Donald Trump, and the hoary charges of “racism” and “white supremacy” are sounding increasingly desperate, Trump opponents are almost openly rooting for a downturn in the economy.
And MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle was leading the charge on Monday.
“A recession is a normal part of economic activity. We see them upturns and downturn. A recession doesn’t mean it’s a crisis,” Ruhle said.
“But if you’re a sitting president, you don’t necessarily want a recession on your watch. You want people feeling good. But seeing that we have been in economic expansion for the better part of 10 years, it’s about time we get a recession.”
Think about those words: “It’s about time we get a recession.”

Those are no doubt words every Democratic partisan takes to heart, since there’s nothing liberals would like better than to be able to bash a Trump re-election effort with bad news on the economic front.
In fact, bad news to everyday Americans would be good news for liberals who are willing to sacrifice anything to get rid of the man in the Oval Office – particularly if, like Ruhle, a recession would likely have little impact personally.
(It’s always possible that MSNBC anchors are making salaries that leave them worried about paying the mortgage, rent or student loan bills, of course, but it’s not very likely.)
The fact is, ever since literally the beginning of the Trump presidency, liberals have been predicting economic disaster. (Remember New York Times’ columnist Paul Krugman’s election night opinion piece when he doubted the markets would ever recover?)
If Americans had a mainstream media they could trust to present news in a fair way, it’s possible warnings like Ruhle’s could be taken at face value.
The fact is, recessions are a part of the normal business cycle. They do happen, and it’s not the end of the world.
But the other fact is that the economy, under Trump’s deregulation, has been booming, providing opportunities from Americans at every level of the economic scale to improve their lives.
There is nothing a liberal on a liberal network would like to see more than the United States economy go into a recession — one bad enough to turn voters against the Trump administration in the 2020 election.
The fact that liberals who are talking about a potential recession now are the same liberals who were talking about recessions when Trump was elected should give any American pause before believing it. The fact that those same liberals support the political party with the most to gain, speaking in total cynicism, from the potential misery of their fellow citizens — should make the skepticism even stronger.
The fact that the liberals who are salivating for an economic downturn to hurt Trump politically wouldn’t suffer a bit themselves in their well-financed lives, makes it even worse.
HBO’s Bill Maher might talk about how a recession’s pain would be worth it if it hurt Trump (or saved animals!). An openly liberal “newswoman” like Ruhle can be complacent about the idea that it’s “about time we get a recession.”
But it’s a rock-solid bet that Donald Trump doesn’t treat the economic affairs of his countrymen so lightly – and will do everything in his power to avoid even a hint of recession.
And so far, his record is looking pretty good.
