MLK's Niece: To Fight Racism, Starbucks Should End Planned Parenthood Donations

Share

What will go further toward ending racism and improving black lives: Mandatory “racial bias training” for the millennial who makes your latte, or defunding a group that ends the lives of 100,000 African-American children every year?

It’s a jarring question, but one that was asked by someone who knows a few things about race issues in America: Dr. Alveda King.

The civil rights activist and pro-life advocate is the niece of Martin Luther King Jr. She has been deeply involved in African-American issues since the 1960s, when her childhood home in Birmingham was bombed by enemies of the civil rights movement.

In a passionate opinion piece published by The Washington Examiner, Alveda King brought up the recent Starbucks controversy and made the case that far more horrific racism is taking place right in front of us daily.

“After two African-American men sat in a Philadelphia Starbucks without ordering last month, they were arrested for ‘trespassing,'” King said of the incident that we have covered extensively.

“Ever since, the coffee giant has been doing a mea culpa for the appearance of conducting racist business practices and has announced that no one has to buy anything to sit in one of its coffee shops or use the restrooms,” she continued.

Part of Starbucks’ nationwide “apology tour” has been a day of “racial bias education,” where the entire company shut down its stores for mandatory employee training.

It’s unclear what this will actually do to fight racism — if the incident was actually racist to begin with. So far, the only thing the coffee chain’s changes seem to have done is made Starbucks a new mecca for homelessness and drug-using riffraff.

King then got to her main point: The Starbucks fiasco is just a distraction, and the brand is supporting much deeper racism that literally ends black lives.

Do you believe Planned Parenthood is connected to racism?

“Through its corporate donations, Starbucks contributes to one of the most racist organizations in our nation’s history,” King wrote, pulling no punches.

“Planned Parenthood, the largest single provider of abortions in the U.S., performs more than 300,000 terminations each year,” she explained.

And what is the actual human impact of Starbucks’ corporate support of abortion? It’s measured in hundreds of thousands of African-American lives.

“Planned Parenthood’s disdain for human dignity, especially in the African-American community, is deeply embedded in its 101-year history. The numbers do not lie,” wrote King.

She broke down the sobering facts about abortion in the black community.

“More African-Americans have died from abortion than from AIDS, accidents, violent crimes, cancer, and heart disease — combined. In America today, a black child is three times more likely to be killed in the womb than a white child. And since 1973, abortion has reduced the black population by more than 25 percent,” King explained.

Re-read those numbers again. Then imagine for just a moment if a conservative group, instead of a major liberal ally, was responsible for those statistics. There would be rioting in the streets and accusations of genocide.

But because Planned Parenthood is backed by liberals, this carnage is somehow magically OK.

“Planned Parenthood operates the nation’s largest chain of abortion facilities, and almost 80 percent of its facilities are located in minority neighborhoods,” King said. “About 13 percent of American women are black, but they have more than 35 percent of the abortions.

“I often say that abortion is the civil rights issue of our time. Abortion denies the rights of the innocent. It refuses to help the most vulnerable. Abortion segregates the unborn child from his or her mother, and all of society.”

The niece of the most famous African-American advocate in history brought up a fact that the modern left has been all too eager to hide: Planned Parenthood is rooted in racism, and was founded by a woman who literally wanted to use Nazi-esq eugenics to eradicate black people like unwanted outcasts.

That isn’t an exaggeration.

“(Planned Parenthood founder Margaret) Sanger supported black eugenics, a racist attitude toward black and other minority babies; an elitist attitude toward those she regarded as ‘the feeble minded;’ speaking at rallies of Ku Klux Klan women; and communications with Hitler sympathizers,” King wrote.

Once again, the facts back her up. “We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population,” Sanger wrote in a 1939 letter.

Sanger also described undesirable people, which included African Americans, as “human weeds,” “reckless breeders” and “spawning … human beings who never should have been born” in a book advocating her eugenics programs. Some of her other quotes are equally appalling.

Remember, Sanger is the great hero of the pro-abortion left, while conservatives who want to protect lives and lift the African-American community out of a cycle of poverty are smeared as horrible racists.

“It’s time for corporations like Starbucks that claim to care about ‘racial-bias’ to stop funding Planned Parenthood’s house of horrors, which has taken precious lives away from minority communities and from society at large,” King said.

King is right. Pretending to be deeply outraged because one barista called the police for loitering, while turning a blind eye to some 100,000 black children who are aborted every single year, is disingenuous.

Democrats and the left have an absolutely abhorrent record of actually protecting black lives and protecting the innocent. This dark history will not stay hidden forever, however, and voices like King’s will help bring it to light.
