Mike Lee Asks Hilarious Kavanaugh Question Everyone Has Been Wondering
Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh recently endured three grueling days of contentious confirmation hearings in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Those hearings were marred by the absurd antics of Democrat committee members, who attempted to utilize every parliamentary procedure and committee rule on the books to delay, suspend or wholly terminate the hearings.
That is, they did so when the hearings weren’t being constantly interrupted by several dozen protesters in the audience who would disrupt the proceedings at random points with shouts and yells until they were removed from the room by security.
But for all of the disruptions, loaded “gotcha” questions and generally tense atmosphere, there were a few moments of levity that occurred.
According to The Daily Caller, one such moment took place near the conclusion of a segment in which Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee was questioning Kavanaugh and seemed to be interested in the writing instrument the judge had been using to take notes during the hearings.
“I do, however, have a very important question for you,” Lee said in a serious tone. “I noticed that you take a lot of notes, and I respect that because I can tell you are paying close attention.”
“You use a Sharpie, and it’s not a fine-tip Sharpie, it’s a regular Sharpie that might smudge … so why do you prefer that pen? I’m just dying of curiosity,” asked Lee.
“Uh … so I can see it,” Kavanaugh replied in a matter-of-fact manner, which prompted uproarious laughter from everyone else in the room.
“It’s nothing scientific,” he added with a chuckle.
Lee retorted, “That is a perfect ‘mic drop’ moment, and with that, Mr. Chairman, I reserves the balance of my time.”

To be sure, some have complained about the rather unserious nature of Lee’s question, but considering the volatile nature of the confirmation hearings to that point, the brief moment of levity was sorely needed by pretty much everyone involved in the proceedings.
Just hours earlier, Democrat New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker had engaged in a ridiculous political stunt by surreptitiously releasing what he claimed were “confidential” documents and emails regarding Kavanaugh that had supposedly been hidden from the public and would reveal what a terrible nominee he truly was.
Booker insinuated that the emails, which were in reference to racial profiling of terrorism suspects in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, would show that Kavanaugh was a racist unworthy of a seat on the nation’s highest court.
However, the emails showed that Kavanaugh was actually opposed to racial profiling, and it was further revealed that the documents supposedly released illegally by Booker — at great alleged risk to his political career in the Senate — had already been cleared for release to the public, meaning Booker hadn’t broken any rules at all.
There is no amount of weeping or wailing or gnashing of teeth by elected Democrats and their irate supporters that will be able to stop Kavanaugh from ultimately being confirmed to the Supreme Court.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell himself has made it clear that Kavanaugh will be confirmed and seated on the court prior to the start of the new session on October 1.
There is no word on whether Kavanaugh will continue to use a Sharpie to take notes as a Supreme Court Justice, or if he will opt for the finer print of a ball-point pen in the future.
