Mike Huckabee Goes Full Dad Mode After Sarah Sanders Gets Kicked Out of Restaurant

Share

Remember a few months ago, when it was absolutely impermissible to refuse service in any way to any individual based on your personal belief system? Yeah, about that…

In a story that has Washington buzzing, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was thrown out of the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, on Friday based on the fact that the staff disagreed with her personal belief system.

According to The Washington Post, Red Hen owner Stephanie Wilkinson was notified by phone that Sanders and her party had chose to dine in the establishment.

“When she walked into the restaurant, Wilkinson saw that there had been no mistake. The Red Hen is no bigger than some apartments, and the group table was impossible to miss: Sanders in a black dress, her husband, three or four men and women of roughly similar ages, and an older couple,” The Post reported

“Several Red Hen employees are gay, she said. They knew Sanders had defended Trump’s desire to bar transgender people from the military. This month, they had all watched her evade questions and defend a Trump policy that caused migrant children to be separated from their parents.”

So, they asked her to leave. Keep in mind, part of the decision was over what could be construed as Sanders’ religious beliefs — namely, her thoughts on the transgender ban. However, their decision was their decision, and Sanders decided the best way to deal with it was via a tweet.

Meanwhile, liberals who would otherwise be furious over the decision to refuse to serve someone based on their beliefs were absolutely giddy with #TheResistance, as demonstrated by The Guardian columnist Jessica Valenti.:

In other words, civility is only for people you agree with. Which is entirely meaningless unless you’re the type of person that practices incivility with everyone. In which case, I’d recommend help.

The best response, however, came from Sanders’ father, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee:

That nailed it. Huckabee has spent a career in the public eye, and he’s never been one to flinch from a confrontation.

And he’s already shown how he’s willing to defend his daughter against groundless attacks, like the one launched by “comedian” Michelle Wolf at this year’s White House Correspondents Association Dinner.

Do you think this restaurant's behavior was uncalled for?

Huckabee’s been giving liberals heartburn for decades, and this tweet shows why. He called out liberal hypocrisy as its worst — and he was exactly right.

If this whole incident was just about who Sanders works for, it would be bad enough.

But as The Washington Post article makes clear, however, this had a lot to do with her views on LGBT rights, something which is a function of her Christian beliefs.

In other words, this is a mirror image of the Masterpiece case, only with a lot more vitriol and loathing behind it. How that will work out for liberals in the long term, I cannot say.

However, they should probably remember that conservatives have very long memories, and a way of making their beliefs known.

Don’t believe me? Just ask the NFL.
