Media Gushes over Obama's Thanksgiving, Seemingly Ignores What Trump Did for US Troops
As the media focuses its attention on former president Barack Obama’s volunteering at a Chicago food bank on Thanksgiving, President Donald Trump’s visit to the Coast Guard has largely slipped under the radar.
Trump traveled to the Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet in Florida to wish members a happy Thanksgiving and to thank them for their indispensable assistance in the recent natural disasters.
“We’re just celebrating the Coast Guard — because it has to be celebrated,” Trump said as he opened his remarks, reported by The Washington Post.
“It’s an honor to be with all of you, and thank you very much,” he said to the group of around 100 service members.
He especially thanked them for the lives they saved during hurricane responses.
Trump applauded them for the work they did, saying, “If you were doing a brand, they would say this is one of the great brand increases. Nobody has gone up more than the Coast Guard.”
The president seemed happy to be visiting, asking about which Coast Guard member lifted the most and fake arm wrestling one of them.
He invited them to his golf club, saying, “Anybody that wants to go, you go,” and joked, “If you break par, I’ll give you $100.”
He shook each Coast Guard member’s hand to thank them individually and wish them a good Thanksgiving.

Earlier in the day, Trump had started Thanksgiving off with a phone call to members of the U.S. military around the world.
He expressed the country’s gratitude to them for their service.
“I want to thank you all for serving today,” Trump told them, as quoted by a White House brief.
“We thank God for the blessings of having you people be our heroes — and you really are our heroes — and your families are back here, and they love you, and they respect you, and they look forward to seeing you.”
“You’re the ones who keep America safe and strong and free,” Trump added. “You do a job like nobody else, and it is really great respect that we all have.”
He also hinted about a future overseas trip to visit U.S. troops, saying, “Maybe I’ll even see you over there; you never know what’s going to happen.”
