Lib Writer Says Everyone, Including Students & Illegals, Should Run for POTUS
The left-wing assault on the Constitution continues, with the latest shot coming from Vox co-founder Matthew Yglesias and his call for an end to the constitutional provisions that restrict who can run for president of the United States.
Currently, the president must be a natural-born citizen and at least 35 years old.
These provisions seem like common sense. It wouldn’t be a good idea to elect someone who might have allegiances to another country or someone with little to no professional experience.
However, Yglesias wants to “scrap” this part of the Constitution because “everyone else should be allowed to run,” according to an article he wrote for Vox on Wednesday.
“The constitutional prohibition on people under the age of 35 serving as president is just one of these weird lacuna that was handed down to us from the 18th century but that nobody would seriously propose creating today if not for status quo bias,” Yglesias claimed.
Yglesias fails to point out that many countries with newer constitutions find 35 to be too young for their leaders. Italy requires its president to be at least 50 years old and South Korea requires its president to be at least 40.
The main example of a “talented” young candidate that Yglesias has in mind is Democratic Representative-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is 29 years old.
“It’s silly to arbitrarily rule out one of the most talented players due to age, and tragically non-obvious that political star power can actually last for years and years without dimming,” Yglesias claimed.
That seems like a stretch. There’s no indication that Ocasio-Cortez is a “talented” politician. She hasn’t even served a single day in the House yet — in fact, she’s never held any elected office before her run for Congress.
So what are the “talents” Ocasio-Cortez has as a politician? Yglesias cites her “incredible wit, charisma, social media savvy, and basic political smarts.”
Clearly, Democrats are really setting the bar for “talent” quite low.
Yglesias went on to suggest that immigrants should also take the highest office.
Using Arnold Schwarzenegger as an example, Yglesias said the former California governor “didn’t run (for president) and we never got a glimpse of what a run would look like because immigrants, like 20-somethings, are constitutionally barred from serving.”
Yglesias didn’t specifically say which immigrants should be able to run, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that he wants illegal immigrants to run for president.
The worst part about this piece is the author’s blatant disdain for the Constitution.
“But, of course, the constitutional prohibition will not get changed in time. That, however, is one of the problems with these sorts of limitations — they’re too cumbersome to remove in a timely manner,” Yglesias claimed. “That’s exactly why we should scrap them as soon as possible.”
Yglesias doesn’t want to wait until the time actually calls for a constitutional amendment. He simply wants to “scrap” portions of the Constitution because they provide an inconvenience.
In addition, the Vox Twitter account implied that the constitutional provisions should be ignored.

Perhaps the left wants to “scrap” the Constitution and let Ocasio-Cortez run because it can’t muster up a single likable candidate.
Or maybe the left just wants to scrap the Constitution because it has such blatant contempt for the Constitution.
