Letter Trump Wrote on Abortion Makes Its Way Onto Internet, Thrilling Pro-Lifers Everywhere
Many pro-lifers had their doubts about Donald Trump’s commitment to the rights of the unborn during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump said the right things, but they wondered whether he would follow through if elected.
The answer has been an emphatic “YES.”
“Trump has stood up for the humanity of the unborn child like no president in recent memory,” Washington Post columnist Marc A. Thiessen wrote last month. “And this is why so many Christian conservatives stick with him.”
The president reaffirmed his commitment in a letter to the National Right to Life Committee to mark the opening of the pro-life organization’s convention this week in Kansas, LifeNews.com reported Thursday.
“We all have a duty to defend the most basic and fundamental human right — the right to life,” Trump wrote. “As President, I am dedicated to protecting the lives of every American, including the unborn.”

The president then wrote about some of things he’s done since taking office to protect children in the womb.
“One of the first actions I took as President,” Trump wrote, “was to reinstate the Mexico City policy to ensure the taxpayer dollars are not used to fund organizations that perform abortions in foreign countries.
“I also signed into law legislation that allows states to prioritize how they spend their family planning grant money, giving States the choice to withhold taxpayer funding from organizations that perform abortions.
“Further, last month my Administration proposed updates to the regulations governing the Title X Family Planning program in order to improve Women’s Health and ensure that federal funds are not used to fund the abortion industry in violation of law.”
Of course, his greatest contribution might be his Supreme Court appointments. Trump’s first was conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch, and he’ll get another opportunity with the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy. The potential is there for a court that might overturn the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion.
The president concluded his letter by expressing his appreciation for the pro-life advocates at the convention, which started Thursday.
“The National Right to Life Committee’s work is critical to protecting our nation’s most vulnerable,” Trump wrote. “Since 1968 you have provided a voice to the voiceless. Each day you help spread compassion and promote the dignity of every human person.
“I am truly grateful for your efforts, and I remain committed to continue working with you as we cultivate a world that values and regards every human life.”
Thank you, Mr. President, for fulfilling your promises on protecting the unborn.
