Left-Wing Activist Armed with Lightsaber Gets Owned by 1 Question About Obamacare

Share

As you no doubt heard last week, May 4 is “Star Wars Day,” as in, “May the fourth be with you.” I know. We’re a very punny society.

To mark the event, a liberal group calling itself Health Care Voter decided to hold a lightsaber rally in a Washington D.C. I’ve never heard of them and there isn’t much on their webpage, but apparently Alyssa Milano is a co-chair of the group.

If a video from the fine leftists over at Now This is any indication, the event was very much a modest gathering (I’ve had larger dinner parties) where a panoply of Star Wars ephemera — lightsabers, cosplay, John Williams’ “Imperial March” — were on display in defense of Obamacare.

Apparently, May 4 was chosen because it was the one year anniversary of the health care repeal bill’s passage by the House of Representatives and not because it was a good way to get hipsters out.

Mika, the main event organizer and a supporter of the Affordable Care Act, was featured prominently in the video. “We’re here to make sure that the 217 Empire lawmakers who voted for the bill (to repeal Obamacare) are held accountable,” she said, wielding a lightsaber clad in a Health Care Voter T-shirt and a Yoda cap.

Oh burn. She called those who voted to repeal one of the great disasters of our time members of the Empire! We’re regular Palpatines, all of us who think the free market can provide better quality health care at a cheaper cost if we simply allow actual competition. We’re building a veritable Death Star … of more choices at lower price points.

Perhaps I’m being a bit snooty here. I mean, Mika surely knows about Obamacare and the benefits and pitfalls of it, right?

Well, a reporter for The Daily Caller, Benny Johnson, decided to venture out among the members of the statist Rebel Forces to interview Mika, and it turns out she may want to brush up on the legislation she’s willing to look so ridiculous to defend.

“I showed up near the end of the event but was able to speak with a main organizer of the event, Mika. Mika, wearing a Yoda hat and waiving a lightsaber, happily spoke with me about why Obamacare is awesome and why I should fight the conservative attempt to repeal the landmark law,” Johnson wrote.

Do you think Obamacare needs to go?

“My question for her was this: ‘Do you know that ‘Star Wars’ is a fake, made-up story — very much like when Barack Obama said that you can keep your doctor if you like your doctor?'”

Apparently not:

“Um, I don’t think that’s what I want to talk about right now,” Mika responded. She also noted she didn’t “think that’s exactly true,” even though, as Johnson points out, “The New York Times listed this as one of Obama’s biggest lies.”

“I asked a similar question, wondering if she knew that “Star Wars” is like a fantasy, like when Obama said the Affordable Care Act would lower premiums,” Johnson continued. “Mika said that was ‘not accurate.’ It is.”

Our Yoda-bedecked friend insisted that she was trying to “save people’s lives.”

“But that is exactly what Palpatine said when he exerted total government control over the Empire,” Johnson wrote. “Just like Obamacare exerts total control over the health care industry.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mika wasn’t interested in exploring this line of inquiry any further.

“I think we’re on two different pages here,” Mika said. “I appreciate you for coming.”

Then, as Johnson notes, “Mika told me she had to go.”

“Maybe to a galaxy far, far, away,” he added.

The video is here, and it’s every bit as hilarious as you might have hoped.

While this was actually a pretty restrained dialogue between forces on the left and right, it was pretty obvious who was the Empire in this situation — and it’s not the one doing the ridiculous moves with the lightsaber in D.C. park.
