Inspector General Releases Explosive Report That Led to McCabe Firing

Share

The American people now have a much better idea of why former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was unceremoniously fired last month — and there may be vindication for President Trump in the process.

Today, the Department of Justice’s inspector general released a scathing report that shows McCabe as the source of leaks within the FBI. The document also declares that the former bureau official “misled” investigators while trying to cover up those leaks.

“Inspector General Michael Horowitz, appointed to the post by President Obama, had been reviewing the FBI and DOJ’s actions leading up to the 2016 election,” explained Fox News. That inquiry centered on Hillary Clinton’s foundation and her use of an unsecured email server.

“On Friday, the IG published a separate report on McCabe’s actions related to leaks about the FBI’s probe into the Clinton Foundation, which said that McCabe misled investigators about leaks and did so in a way that did not fall under a ‘public interest’ exemption,” continued Fox.

One of the biggest bombshells in the inspector general report is that McCabe improperly informed the press about the ongoing Clinton Foundation investigation. In other words, he was a leaker.

“(W)e concluded that McCabe’s decision to confirm the existence of the CF Investigation through an anonymously sourced quote, recounting the content of a phone call with a senior Department official in a manner designed to advance his personal interests at the expense of Department leadership, was clearly not within the public interest exception,” the government report stated.

That independent inspector general report confirms what Attorney General Jeff Sessions said when Andrew McCabe was fired last month. The deputy director “made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked candor — including under oath — on multiple occasions,” according to Sessions.

Despite the fact that McCabe was the source of an unauthorized leak to the Wall Street Journal, the IG report found that he “lacked candor” — essentially, he lied — multiple times to shrug off blame. This included being untruthful to James Comey, who was the FBI director at the time.

“The report says that McCabe ‘lacked candor’ in a conversation with Comey when he said that he had not authorized the disclosure and didn’t know who did,” Fox reported.

Do you believe that top FBI officials were leaking to undermine Trump?

Remember, it was actually him all along.

“The IG also found that he also lacked candor when questioned by FBI agents on multiple occasions since that conversation, where he told agents that he did not authorize the disclosure and did not know who did,” continued that news outlet based on the government report.

Both President Trump and Jeff Sessions came under intense criticism after McCabe was let go, despite a growing stack of evidence suggesting that the firing was justified.

Throughout the scandal, the disgraced deputy director has insisted on playing the victim. “This attack on my credibility is one part of a larger effort not just to slander me personally, but to taint the FBI, law enforcement, and intelligence professionals more generally,” he declared.

Acting guiltless after being caught with a hand in the cookie jar seems to be an FBI theme lately. Former Director James Comey has taken a similar tack, even going as far as writing a memoir critical of Trump for daring to fire him.

In Comey’s case, countless Democrats actually questioned the director’s credibility and voiced similar concerns as Trump. They seem to want the public to forget those concerns now that Comey has become an anti-Trump ally, but the evidence is clear.

It’s the same story with McCabe. Multiple independent sources — the latest being the DOJ’s own inspector general — agreed that he tripped up and should probably have been let go. Despite the evidence, the left is intent on turning politics-playing leakers into martyrs, with the president as the villain.

That only works of the “martyrs” are actually innocent. James Comey and Andrew McCabe appear to be no such thing… and once again, the facts have ended up on Donald Trump’s side.
