Incest Victim Never Considered Abortion... She’s Not the Rapist’s Baby, She’s Mine
When it comes to life lessons, the butchers at Planned Parenthood could learn a lot from Wendi Lubin.
The immigrant who came to the United States with her family from the Caribbean endured a brutal rape at the hands of a male relative and became pregnant as a result.
But the young woman’s story was only just beginning – as was the life of her baby.
In an inspiring opinion piece written for the pro-life website LifeNews in 2016, Wedencise “Wendi” Lubin described how she came to be in a situation that would seem tailor-made for those who believe in abortions in cases of rape and incest.
She was a victim of both, but instead of opting for the way out championed by so many on the left who style themselves as advocates for women, she became an advocate for herself – and for the unborn daughter who was inside her.
Her story started in a home, she wrote, where she had to survive “a lifetime of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of my parents.” However, she’d managed to do well enough that she had secured a full scholarship to the prestigious Howard University in Washington and seemed to be on her way.
That all changed in 2010, though, just before Lubin turned 18, when her parents decided to send her to live with two male relatives, “both of whom were notorious for a history of violence against women.”
“Within two months of living there, the unthinkable happened: I was brutally raped of my virginity, molested and physically abused in every single way imaginable,” Lubin wrote.
“I was told by the two male relatives that if I told anyone, I would be killed. To say I was horrified, dehumanized, terrorized and completely shell-shocked is an understatement.”
A routine physical before she entered college turned up the fact that Lubin had become pregnant.
“Immediately, my doctor told me I had three options: 1, Abort the baby 2, Adoption and 3, Keep my baby. This was not a tough decision for me. I am and have always been pro-life. What furthered my convictions was that my doctor ordered an ultrasound for me at six weeks pregnant. As soon as I saw that ultrasound, I realized that I was carrying a human life inside of me. No matter what, I did not have it in my heart to terminate this human life, regardless of the heinous, barbaric crime that had been perpetrated upon me. I never associated my unborn baby as being responsible.”
And that’s really the heart of the abortion debate.
Though liberals like to pretend otherwise, the child who is conceived through the union of sperm and egg exists independently of the circumstances.
Whether it was a moment two people who loved each other consummated their marriage, or a thoughtless act between lovers or strangers, or the result of a brutal crime – as Lubin describes her pregnancy – the human in the embryonic stage is not responsible for its own existence. But it does exist.
Liberals also like to pretend that every woman who has an abortion does so of her own volition. In fact, the New Hampshire legislature recently shot down
a proposed law that would screen women who intended to have abortions to find if any had pressured by those around them to terminate their pregnancy.
Lubin had to withstand that kind of coercion too.
But in February 2011, she gave birth to a baby daughter and, she wrote, has never regretted it.
“I am so thankful to be a mother,” she wrote. “First and foremost, my biggest blessing in life is my daughter. This gorgeous, intelligent child never ceases to amaze me. Each and every day I fall more and more in love with her personality, her charm, and her bright energy. Being a mother is absolutely the gift that keeps on giving.”
For Lubin, life has gone on. She is now an alumna of the State College of Florida — Manatee-Sarasota, a motivational speaker and the mother of her daughter, Valencia.
“I have never loved my child any less because of her biological father,” she wrote. “Often people ask me how I feel about my daughter because her father is a monster who brutally raped me. I ask them a rhetorical question: “If a child’s biological father was Hitler, Saddam Hussein, or Bin Laden, does that make them less of a child worthy of endless love?” The fact of the matter is NO, absolutely not! As human beings, we do not choose who our biological parents are. Whether it be a serial killer or a rapist, that child is pure, and that child is innocent. That child is a new life. I believe new life begins at conception.”
It’s a life lesson the butchers at Planned Parenthood refuse to learn.
But it’s one that Lubin, and the strong women like her, are teaching the rest of us every day.
