Huck Lets Loose on Trump Attorney Raid, Says Exactly What We're All Thinking
Leave it to Mike Huckabee to cut through the fog.
While the mainstream media and liberal outlets are dizzying themselves with speculation about Monday’s raid by the FBI on President Donald Trump’s lawyer’s office and hotel room, the former Arkansas governor and Fox News contributor had a bigger question in mind.
And it’s one that all Americans should be thinking.
In an interview with Shannon Bream on “Fox News at Night” on Wednesday, Huckabee put the raid in a wider perspective.
With the FBI action, Trump attorney Michael Cohen was getting a kind of treatment that federal law enforcement never came close to meting out to Hillary Clinton cronies who were under investigation for the former secretary of state’s infamous use of a private email server to conduct the nation’s business as its top diplomat under President Barack Obama.
Cheryl Mills, Clinton’s chief of staff and attorney, wasn’t subjected to anything but kid-gloves questioning (that she even ended herself at one point). Huma Abedin, Clinton’s closest aide and the wife of serial sexter Anthony Weiner, lied to the bureau with impunity.
But for Trump’s camp the rules are different, and that had Huckabee worried about the justice of law in America.
“I think most Americans have a good sense of justice,” he told Bream.
“They want there to be justice applied, even if you’re the president, but they want it to be applied equally and evenhandedly, and they don’t see that happening. Nobody busted down Cheryl Mills’ door. Nobody went into Huma Abedin’s house when Anthony Weiner, her husband, had all kinds of information that he shouldn’t have had on his computer.”
Huckabee then drew a connection between the FBI’s raid on Cohen’s office and the breathless media anticipation that Trump is planning to fire special counsel Robert Mueller. The endless speculation has even led some senators to consider legislation to protect Mueller from being fired by Trump.
“I see no indication that President Trump has an intention to fire Bob Mueller because I think he knows the firestorm that it would create,” he said. “But this is the narrative that the media has created to discredit Donald Trump and to be a distraction, quite frankly…. Why else would Congress be contemplating passing legislation that would protect Bob Mueller?
“I would like to know who’s going to protect this great republic of ours. Who’s going to protect the integrity of the office of the president and the separation of powers? Who’s gonna protect every American from the intrusion of a federal agency coming and busting in your home because they are just on a fishing expedition that has nothing to do with Russia and collusion?”

The American people, who have had their share of news about the Clinton investigation over the years since news about Clinton’s private email server first broke in The New York Times in March 2015, know that there are stark differences in how the media have covered Trump’s “Russia collusion” investigation and how it covered the Hillary probe.
With the raid on Cohen’s office this week, they now see in stark relief how differently law enforcement agencies themselves are treating the two investigations — for clearly political reasons.
And somewhere, all Americans can be asking themselves what would protect them if they are ever on the wrong side, politically, from those holding power.
That’s not a question that should ever be needed to be asked in a country built on the rule of law, but the fact that it is being asked now is the legacy of Democrat rule that started when Bill Clinton ascended to the presidency in the 1990s and continued into the Obama years.
Huckabee cut through the fog on Wednesday night with a question every American should be thinking.
The big step now — and maybe the biggest job remaining in Trump’s first term — is to answer it.
