Home Depot Co-Founder Unloads on 'Enemy of Every Entrepreneur' Bernie Sanders

Share

The co-founders of one of the most iconic success stories in American retail business, Home Depot, told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto in an exclusive interview just how insane Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is for pushing his Democratic socialism dream on American voters.

Bernie Marcus and Ken Langone, co-founders of Home Depot, held back nothing as they ripped apart socialism six ways from Sunday. The two appeared in the segment with Cavuto on the company’s 40th anniversary.

When Cavuto mentioned Sanders, and specifically his plan to have Wall Street shell out $1.6 trillion to pay off student loan debt, Marcus had immediate and unforgiving thoughts on the Vermont senator.

“Don’t bring up Bernie Sanders, because that’s a red flag in front of me. He is the enemy of every entrepreneur that’s ever going to be born in this country and has been born in the past.”

He implied that students today, who love the appeal of paid-off student loan debt and the idea of free college, might not know any better because the history of the failed policies of socialism around the world simply aren’t taught in today’s classrooms.

“Our kids today don’t learn Western civilization; they don’t learn history. History repeats itself. You see things happening over and over again,” Marcus said.

Langone fully agreed, saying “if the people in America today … if they want to know what the future holds for them following Bernie Sanders, go to Cuba, go to Venezuela, go to Russia, go to Eastern Europe. Guess what? It doesn’t work.”

Marcus also touched on the trials and tribulations the two had in the 1970s under the Jimmy Carter administration, when starting new businesses with nothing more than an idea was next to impossible. He explained that banks all but refused to extend lines of credit or loans.

Do you agree that Bernie Sanders is anti-entrepreneur?

But thanks to determination, grit and the pursuit of the American dream, the two obviously made it through the fire and were able to start their wildly successful business that launched the “do it yourself” craze in America.

Even in those unfavorable economic conditions under Carter, the two never thought about giving up on their capitalistic dream.

Why? Because “people needed product. People still had to build houses, fix plumbing,” Marcus said.

The vocal co-founder also hit Sanders especially hard on his grand vision of socialized medicine.

“Let me just bring up one thing,” Marcus said to Cavuto. “Bernie Sanders talks about socialized medicine. My foundation now is working on one issue and that is taking care of these veterans, kids who’ve fought in Afghanistan, Iraq. You know that 20 a day commit suicide? Twenty, every single day. What is Bernie Sanders doing about that? Why doesn’t he shut his mouth and do something about these kids.”

Home Depot isn’t the only success story in America. All one needs to do is drive down any city street to see an abundance of successful, capitalistic Americans providing needed goods and services to their communities.

That can never work under a socialist government, as socialism strips away absolutely all incentives to obtain success and launch visionary new businesses like Marcus and Langone did with Home Depot.

Sanders and his followers willfully ignore the horrific failings of socialism in countries like Venezuela, where people are often forced to eat from dumpsters and want for the most basic of human necessities.

As Mark J. Perry from Carpe Diem wrote, “Capitalism will play a major role in the global revival of liberty and prosperity because it nurtures the human spirit, inspires human creativity, and promotes the spirit of enterprise. By providing a powerful system of incentives that promote thrift, hard work, and efficiency, capitalism creates wealth.”

So, why do Bernie and his sheep ignore history? Because socialism sounds really awesome to many, at least on paper. Free stuff is great, right? And people like Sanders think they can make it work “this time.”

But it never has and it most certainly never will.
