Hilarious Photos: Mike Lee Buries AOC's Green New Deal with Props, Epic Speech on Senate Floor
Republican Sen. Mike Lee took the Senate floor on Tuesday to give the Green New Deal “the level of seriousness it deserves.”
And even before the Senate took the Green New Deal to vote on Tuesday and it failed miserably, that “level” wasn’t all that high.
The legislation, which was crafted by Democrats Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts, includes massive tax hikes, plans to replace every building in the country, and ruinously expensive high-speed rail projects.
And while some Democrats support the bill, including some of those running for president, not a single senator voted in favor of the plan on Tuesday. (The tally was 57 votes against, 0 for, according to Fox News.)
The Green New Deal is an absolute joke, and Lee responded to the bill with a few jokes of his own.
“I rise today to consider the Green New Deal with the level of seriousness it deserves,” Lee said on the Senate floor.
On the easel beside Lee was a hilarious illustration of former President Ronald Reagan riding a dinosaur.
“This is a picture of former President Ronald Reagan firing a machine gun while riding on the back of a dinosaur,” Lee said. “You will note both the rocket launcher strapped to his back, and the stirring patriotism of the velociraptor holding up the tattered American flag.”
The senator also used a picture of a tauntaun from the “Star Wars” movie franchise to illustrate how people in Alaska will be able to get around after climate change alarmists successfully abolish air travel.
“While not as efficient as planes or snowmobiles, these hairy, bipedal space lizards offer their own unique benefits,” Lee said.

And for travel overseas, Lee suggested taking tips from Aquaman, who rides a 20-foot sea horse.
“This is a picture of Aquaman, a superhero from the underwater kingdom of Atlantis and founding member of the Super Friends,” Lee said. “I draw your attention, Mr. President, to the 20-foot sea horse he is riding.”
Lee made several great jokes and witty remarks, but he also made a great point that should not be overshadowed by his humorous props.
“The Green New Deal is not a serious policy document because it is not a policy document at all. It’s an aesthetic one,” he said. “This resolution is not an agenda of solutions. It’s a token of elite, tribal identity – and endorsing it, a public act of piety for the chic and woke.”
And as he neared his conclusion, Lee got even more serious.
“Climate change is an engineering problem – not social engineering, but the real kind. It’s a challenge of creativity, ingenuity, and technological invention,” he said.
“And problems of human imagination are not solved by more laws, but by more humans!…
“The solution to climate change is not this unserious resolution, but the serious business of human flourishing – the solution to so many of our problems, at all times and in all places: Fall in love, get married, and have some kids. “
If the Green New Deal was a serious proposal, Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer wouldn’t have been angry at Senate Republicans for pushing the bill to a vote.
The Green New Deal is an absolute joke, and it’s great that Republicans like really are giving it the level of seriousness it deserves.
