Unchained Giuliani Calls Maxine's Bluff: 'Say It! Say Impeachment, Sweetheart!'
It was Rudy Giuliani at his bare-knuckle best.
During a rollicking appearance Wednesday on Sean Hannity’s program on Fox News, the former New York City mayor laid down a challenge for top Democrats to show their true face to American voters before the midterm elections.
And he did it with classic Big Apple brass.
Explaining President Donald Trump’s strategy of confronting Democrats on their own terms, the man who is now Trump’s lead attorney called out big-mouth liberals like California Rep. Maxine Waters to set themselves up directly against Trump.
With control of the House of Representatives on the line for the next two years of the Trump presidency, Giuliani said the electorate should be given a clear picture of what exactly the Democrats have in mind if they return to power.
Democrats — especially Waters — used to talk a lot about impeaching Trump before polls started showing it wasn’t a popular idea outside the party’s base. But if Democrats want to try to overturn the results of the 2016 presidential election, Giuliani said, they should have the guts to say so when the public is really listening.
Check out Giuliani’s challenge in the video above.
“You know, some people have criticized my strategy, which is the president’s, of to some extent playing to the American people,” Giuliani told Hannity. “If this were a regular case, I wouldn’t be doing it. But the people who will decide this are the people of the United States in the 2018 election.
“And they — boy, they are switching fast and the Democrats are running for cover. You don’t hear them say the word ‘impeachment’ anymore. I challenge Maxine Waters to say ‘impeachment’ … Say it. Say ‘impeachment,’ sweetheart. Just say it!
“And you know what’s going to happen? You’re going to go down. Not maybe you, because they vote for you, I don’t know why, but they vote for you. But your colleagues are going to go down.”
Not a lot of nuance there. But Trump didn’t bring Giuliani on board for nuance — he brought him because Giuliani is a heavyweight fighter when it comes to the political ring, and he’s shown over and over again that he’s ready to go the distance.
He proved it when he called out former FBI Director James Comey as a “liar” — and a “disgraceful liar” at that.
He proved it with his head-on handling of the case of porn star Stormy Daniels’ accusations against Trump.
He’s proven it with his aggressive approach to the “Russian collusion” investigation — especially the revelations that the FBI had planted a “spy” within the Trump campaign during the run-up to the presidential election. (And he wasn’t afraid to call a “spy” a “spy.”)
But his challenge to Waters on Wednesday was one of his most outspoken moments yet — and sure to be a favorite of Donald Trump fans.
Don’t be surprised if “say it, sweetheart,” starts cropping up like “lock her up” at Trump rallies.
And given the state of polls that show Republicans in increasingly better shape heading into the midterms, conservatives can only hope Democrats take Giuliani up on the dare.
They could be looking to get knocked out cold.
