George W. Bush Doubles Down on Kavanaugh in Wake of Allegations - 'We Stand by Our Comments'
Former President George W. Bush doubled down on his support for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh after Kavanaugh was accused of committing a sexual assault over 30 years ago.
The former president had already made a statement in July in support of President Donald Trump’s second Supreme Court nominee.
“President Trump has made an outstanding decision in nominating Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court,” the statement read.
Bush nominated Kavanaugh for a seat on the D.C. Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals in 2003. He was finally confirmed in 2006.
In his statement, Bush praised Kavanaugh’s 12 years on the federal bench.
“Brett is a brilliant jurist who has faithfully applied the Constitution and laws throughout his 12 years on the D.C. Circuit,” the statement said. “He is a fine husband, father, and friend – and a man of the highest integrity. He will make a superb Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.”
Bush wasn’t the only one who praised Kavanaugh’s work.
The judge also received the highest possible rating from the American Bar Association.
Despite his impeccable record, Kavanaugh’s confirmation is being delayed in the wake of an allegation by California professor Christine Blasey Ford, who claims Kavanaugh assaulted her when they were both teenagers at a party in the early 1980s.
However, Bush isn’t backing down from his support.
“Laura and I have known and respected Brett Kavanaugh for decades, and we stand by our comments the night Judge Kavanaugh was nominated: He is a fine husband, father, and friend — and a man of the highest integrity,” Bush said in a statement, according to Politico. “He will make a superb Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.”
The former president is joining the many others who are already standing by Kavanaugh, including Trump.
Speaking on the controversy Tuesday, the president said that he “feels badly” for Kavanaugh.
.@POTUS on Kavanaugh controversy: "Hopefully the woman will come forward [and] state her case. He will state his case before representatives of the U.S. Senate. And then they will vote. They will look at his career. They will look at what she had to say from 36 years ago." pic.twitter.com/7coWkO5yx7

Bush and Trump’s continued support for Kavanaugh is the only logical position considering his impeccable track record.
Kavanaugh is a proven and talented judge, and before the Ford allegations arose, there was so little to criticize him for that Democrats had to resort to deliberately misconstruing his statements.
Even the sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh already seem to be falling apart as alleged witnesses have said the assault did not happen.
Kudos to Bush for not backing down in his support for Kavanaugh because he knows that Kavanaugh is a great man and a great judge.
