Gary Sinise Has Unforgettable Gift for Gold Star Families, Where Is His Time 'Person of the Year' Nomination?

Share

Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” award is usually a futile exercise in leftist propaganda.

Sure, every once in a while they get it right, like when Donald Trump’s raucous upheaval of standard American politics netted him the 2016 award, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

It should speak volumes, however, that Trump claimed to turn down an opportunity to win 2017’s award.

“The Silence Breakers” — those who came forward as victims of sexual misconduct — eventually received last year’s honor.

Frankly, Time’s “Person of the Year” is an empty award made all the more meaningless when you see the nominations list each year. The honor generally tends to skew toward little more than self-congratulatory leftism.

Take, for example, the 2018 nominees.

The list included President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, “separated families,” special counsel Robert Mueller, “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler, Christine Blasey Ford, slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi, March for Our Lives activists, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Meghan Markle.

I have a whole litany of questions about that list.

What, exactly, has Mueller accomplished to deserve that nomination? And I mean that in the most literal sense. Even if you’re a far leftist hoping Mueller is the impetus for a potential Trump impeachment, again, what has Mueller done? You know, aside from spending millions of taxpayer dollars on a paranoid witch hunt.

Why is Ryan Coogler on that list? I enjoyed “Black Panther,” even though I thought it was a bit overrated, but a movie director really has no justification to be on this type of list.

Blasey Ford? I would never want to denigrate a woman speaking out against sexual assault, but what has she contributed to the world aside from some damning and unsubstantiated accusations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh?

And don’t even get me started on what Markle accomplished to make that list.

Here’s another question: Given the dubious nature of some of these nominations, why didn’t actor Gary Sinise make the list? Plucking just the most recent good deed off of his Twitter account shows that he’s done far more than some of these Time nominations.

Through his Gary Sinise Foundation, Sinise helped over 1,000 Gold Star children travel with their surviving parent to visit Disney World. That’s awesome. Gold Star families, who’ve lost a family member on active duty, have clearly been through untold trauma and heartbreak. They more than deserve this act.

Just like Gary Sinise would’ve been far more deserving to be a “Person of the Year” nominee than people like Robert Mueller and Meghan Markle.

Time ultimately chose “The Guardians,” a group of journalists including Khashoggi, as its 2018 “Person of the Year.”

I think I still would’ve preferred Sinise.
