Former NFL Player Brewer: I Asked Trump To Call Out Cummings Three Weeks Ago

Share

Another “Trump’s-a-racist” argument just ran into trouble.

Since President Donald Trump started his very public feud with Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings over the conditions in Cummings’ Baltimore congressional district, Democrats and their mainstream media allies have been falling all over themselves to call it another example of the president’s alleged racism.

But retired NFL player Jack Brewer – who happens to be black — has a completely different explanation.

In an interview with Fox Nation on Wednesday, Brewer, a journeyman safety who played for the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals, said he brought up the topic of Baltimore to President Donald Trump in July.

“I had a chance to meet with President Trump, and I told him please call out Elijah Cummings and Baltimore,” said Brewer, who is now a businessman and conservative commentator. “I asked him to do that three weeks ago, and he did it.”

Check out the interview here (Brewer’s Trump mention starts about the 35-second mark):

According to an ABC News report from July 22, Brewer was among several influential black Americans invited to meet with Trump at the president’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

“I had just left Baltimore, where I’m seeing these kids that don’t have any core, no culture within them,” Brewer told Fox Nation. “They don’t have anyone teaching them or training them.

Do you agree with what Jack Brewer said about politicians chasing money?

“And the reason why is because their politicians, their political leaders, are going out and they’re worrying about the issues that raise them money. They worry about the issues that raise them money, and that is not the poor, black kid.”

And that shows in the media’s priorities too, Brewer said.

“We see all the hype over El Paso, and my heart goes out to these people,” he said. “My heart goes out to Dayton, Ohio. But the same weekend, 51 people were shot between Chicago and Baltimore. And no one says anything. And these are the same lives.”

When Trump went public with his criticism of Cummings, it came at a time when the Democratic Party was at war with itself and the constant disruptions caused by “the squad” – Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib.

Trump’s criticisms were greeted as a golden opportunity for liberals to come together to attack the president’s alleged “racism.”

But Brewer’s story shows Trump’s feud with Cummings isn’t the result of racism — it’s the exact opposite. It’s an American president concerned about every part of the country, even the “poor, black kid” in Baltimore that liberals have forgotten.

Don’t expect to see the Trump-haters in the mainstream media falling all over themselves to correct the record, of course.

Bur reality has a way of making itself known.

In his NFL playing days, Jack Brewer took the field for four teams in four different cities.

But the one city he might be having the biggest impact on was one he never played for at all.

And Baltimore and Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings aren’t going to forget it.
