Fmr. ICE Director Digs Up Agency Statistics, Uses Them To Bury Wolf Comparing Agency to ISIS

Share

So-called comedian Michelle Wolf has raised trolling for attention to a new level. Sure, the former “Daily Show” figure and host of “The Break with Michelle Wolf” on Netflix might not be like, any good at her professional calling of being funny. But she’s sure good at stunts.

She first announced herself as a thing at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner with a thudding, squeaky-voiced performance that only got plaudits because she was attacking the Trump administration. Then came her monologue on abortion, an eye-rolling affair that is probably better unrecapitulated here except to say that it contained zero logic and a lot of laughless laugh-lines designed specifically to elicit attention.

And now, a viral video that equates Immigration and Customs Enforcement with the Islamic State group. Because, get it, “ICE” and “ISIS” sound similar? So abolish ICE! Or just compare its agents to terrorists, whatever gets you clicks.

Here’s the ham-fisted video, with Wolf impersonating Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen:

“Take it from me, no organization is better than ICE is!” Wolf-as-Nielsen says at the end of the video.

See, because get it? If you want to enforce our immigration laws you’re just a racist afraid of Hispanics eating dinner together. Brilliant messaging — and free of any pertinent facts. And it somehow relates to Islamist terrorism because… well, don’t think too hard about this, or anything. Just react, dammit.

Former acting ICE Director Thomas Homan, needless to say, wasn’t particularly amused. In an appearance on Fox News’ “Cavuto Live” on Saturday, he called Wolf out.

“It’s the most repulsive thing I’ve seen in my 34 years. I heard you say earlier that ‘I’m angry.’ You’re damn right I’m angry because that’s repulsive and I should be outraged by that comment,” Homan said, according to The Daily Caller.

Were you offended by Michelle Wolf's skit?

“Let me tell you, the joint terrorism task force. We are an agency that supports a joint terrorism task force with the FBI, we have the most participants of any federal agency, we investigate terrorism organizations,” he added.

“We have arrested terrorists inside the United States and deported them.”

“Yeah, ISIS who cut their heads off people. It’s just ridiculous. We’ve saved over several thousand children from drug traffickers… We’ve arrested over 2,000 child predators that have been trafficking in children for sexual exploitation and pornography,” he added.

But those are facts, Mr. Homan. Feelings don’t care about your facts. And Michelle Wolf thinks that immigration laws are like the Islamic State group, so hush up with that attempt to bring this all back to reality.

At least you can take solace in the fact that someone — namely, Michelle Wolf — is keeping the “abolish ICE” flame alive. I say this because even Democrats don’t want to touch that busted plan anymore.

But, hey. At least she got some attention. And, at least in this day and age, that’s all you need to maintain a show. It doesn’t matter if you’re funny. It doesn’t matter if you actually make real points. It doesn’t even matter if you make any sense. Just get attention.

Alas, I feel almost as if I’m playing into this by covering Wolf’s comedic car wreck.

However, when you do something as preposterous as trying to compare enforcing American immigration law with Islamic terrorism, that sort of outrage needs to be called out. The only joke here is the fact that this was considered passable by Michelle Wolf and her team.

Utter nonsense.
