To Feminists' Horror, Trump Delivers 2 Major Pro-Life Victories
When then-candidate Donald Trump was working his way through the crowded Republican 2016 primary field, many principled conservatives expressed great doubt about Trump’s claimed pro-life stance, pointing to past examples of his prior pro-choice position.
Many of those critics cautioned that Trump had only adopted a pro-life stance to win over the conservative base and ominously predicted that, if elected, he would double-cross and sell out the base by reverting to those prior pro-choice positions he held when he had previously been a Democrat.
Since that time, President Trump has proven himself to be arguably the most pro-life president in this nation’s history, directly addressing the annual March for Life event and supporting several legislative and regulatory efforts to help protect the lives of the unborn from the societal horror that is sanctioned abortion on demand.
The Trump administration appears to have just added two more wins to the pro-life column with the finalization and proposal of two separate regulations related to Obamacare that the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List couldn’t help but cheer about in an email to The Western Journal.
“First, the Trump Administration finalized new regulations that protect both religious and moral objectors from the burdensome Obama-era HHS abortifacient drug mandate,” the email said. “The regulations were proposed last year and have now been finalized.”
“This means Catholic nuns who care for the elderly poor will no longer forced by the government to provide abortion-inducing drugs in their health plans, and the regulations also protect moral objectors (like SBA List!) as well. This is a huge victory for conscience and religious liberty rights,” the email added.
A fact sheet released by the Department of Health and Human Services detailed the various religious and moral exemptions to the Obama-era guidances and stipulations that forced some groups and individuals to pay for healthcare coverage — including abortion-inducing drugs against their conscientious objections — that have now been finalized with the Federal Register.
The email from the Susan B. Anthony List said, “Second, the Trump Administration proposed a new rule that directs insurers selling Obamacare plans that cover elective abortion to collect a separate payment from enrollees for that coverage. This is required by law but was completely ignored under the Obama Administration, which allowed insurers to collect the payments together.”
“Because the payments were collected together, many consumers were completely unaware that they had selected a plan with a hidden abortion surcharge,” the email continued. “Of course, SBA List must continue to fight for the elimination of abortion funding under Obamacare, but until then, this proposed rule is an important step in the right direction.”
“Because this is a proposed rule, it will now go through a public comment period before being finalized — we’ll be mobilizing our troops to get positive comments submitted,” the email added.
A separate news release from the SBA List further expanded upon those remarks with an official statement from the head of the organization, President Marjorie Dannenfelser.
The email proceeded to point out a statement released by abortion providers Planned Parenthood that ironically helped confirm that these regulatory moves were indeed solid victories for the pro-life movement.
Planned Parenthood’s statement said, “The Trump-Pence administration has done more in two years to undermine access to reproductive health care than any administration in modern history has done in eight.”
If that backhanded compliment from Planned Parenthood — which most assuredly was not intended to be taken as such — isn’t validation of President Trump’s pro-life bona fides, there isn’t much else that could be said in that regard.
The email from the SBA List concluded with a reminder: “As we approach the two-year mark of the Trump Administration this January, there’s much to be proud of — but still much, much work to be done.”
The radical pro-choice feminists who make up the most vociferous bulk of the abortion-supporting crowd will surely be incensed at these regulations that whittle away at their imposition of abortion funding on those who object to such on moral and religious grounds.
However, pro-life conservatives can rejoice that their president is keeping his word on continuing the effort to protect the lives of unborn children, while also protecting the moral and religious convictions of American citizens from being squashed by government mandates.
This is truly a victory for us all.
