Fed-Up Tucker to Undocumented Lawyer: 'I Don't Know If They Taught You This in Law School...'

Share

Did you know that you can become a lawyer in this country even if you’re an undocumented immigrant?

I certainly didn’t, but you learn something new every day — this time courtesy of Cesar Vargas, an undocumented attorney from New York, who appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show to say that ICE shouldn’t really be enforcing the law and that America had created MS-13.

Vargas was on to talk about Democrat Rep. Nanette Barragan’s claim made during a hearing that ICE was enacting an “anti-immigrant agenda.”

“We love to paint immigrants as criminals,” the California Democrat said. “That is not the complete facts.”

Carlson was not impressed with Vargas’ arguments that Trump’s more stringent ICE enforcement tactics were taking in “grandma” in addition to “rapists and murderers.”

“The law says that ICE can only arrest people with certain kinds of criminal records or certain kinds of crimes,” Carlson said. “Is that what the federal law says?”

“Federal law says that Immigration and Customs Enforcement has to detain people who violate laws like murder, anything like that,” Vargas said. “But they also — the law says that ICE and any law enforcement agency have the discretion to pursue the most violent criminals. So ICE is going after the grannies instead of the murderers.”

Carlson pointed out that ICE’s charter was to enforce federal law — which involved deporting those who were in the United States illegally.

Do you agree with Tucker Carlson?

“It has a right to detain them and the United States government and its citizens have a right to deport them,” Carlson said. “Whether or not they choose to or not is another question. But you can’t attack somebody for enforcing the law as written. By the way, it’s written by the Congress in which that member of Congress (Rep. Barragan) sits. So I don’t know if they taught you this part in law school, but what she said is insane.”

Vargas remained unconvinced. He also had some bizarre ideas about how the world worked.

MS-13 is a product of the U.S. We created MS-13,” Vargas said.

Carlson was having no part in that discussion, saying supporters of illegal immigration always try to place the blame for the problem on the U.S.

“This is actually the one thing that does irritate me,” Carlson added. “I want to cut this part of the conversation short because I don’t want to get mad at you.”

While Vargas kept on trying to give credibility to his statements by stating he was a lawyer, Carlson had the ultimate comeback. “I don’t know why I’m taking a lecture on immigration and customs enforcement laws from someone who broke our laws to come here,” he said.

This is the kind of thing that gets lost in this debate. Illegal immigrants are, by definition, illegal. They have proven themselves capable of breaking the law merely by their continued presence here, and Congress has enacted laws to stop them.

Democrats don’t think the law should be enforced, however, if only because it gives them a strong electoral benefit.

The problem is that it’s not just grandma who’s coming over. In fact, there are plenty of MS-13 and other related gang members in the mix, as well as human traffickers and drug dealers.

The point is, we simply don’t know who’s coming into our country each day. That’s why we have immigration laws — and why, in spite of what individuals like Vargas might think, they work.
