Ex-Obama Aide's Email with Kim Foxx Explodes, Texts Show Foxx Attempting To Get 'Huge Victory' for Smollett

Share

The Chicago police union is calling for an investigation into Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx for suspicious emails and texts that suggest she was trying to rig actor Jussie Smollet’s case in his favor.

On Tuesday, Foxx’s office dropped 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct against Smollett, who was accused of orchestrating a fake hate crime and filing a false police report.

In return for dropping the charges, Smollett only has to do community service and forfeit his $10,000 bond.

But Foxx, who made a show of “recusing” herself from the case, exchanged text messages last month with one of Smollett’s family members after correspondence with Tina Tchen, former chief of staff to first lady Michelle Obama, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Tchen emailed Foxx asking for a “call on behalf of Jussie Smollett and family,” adding that the family has “concerns about the investigation.”

The ex-Obama aide put Foxx in contact with a Smollett family member.

“Spoke to the superintendent earlier, he made the ask,” Foxx wrote to the relative. “Trying to figure out logistics. I’ll keep you posted.”

Do you think Jussie Smollett is going to walk away from this without a criminal record?

“Omg this would be a huge victory,” the Smollett relative replied.

“I make no guarantees, but I’m trying,” Foxx wrote.

Foxx’s communication with the Smollett family member is extremely questionable, especially after Foxx’s office decided to drop the charges against Smollett, which no doubt was a huge victory for him.

Think about it this way: Imagine if you were mugged and the state prosecutor was in correspondence with the mugger’s family to get a “huge victory” for the mugger.

Except in this case, the victims were the people of Chicago, whose tax dollars were wasted on investigating the “attack” Smollett reported on Jan. 29.

As a result of Foxx’s emails and texts, Kevin Graham, president of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police, is demanding a federal investigation into the Smollett case, CNN reported Wednesday.

Graham characterized Foxx’s correspondence as messages about “diverting the case from Chicago police department to a federal investigation.”

Graham also made a request to the Department of Justice last week to investigate the suspicious details of Smollett’s case, according to CNN.

“We’re doubling down on that. We want to make sure that the Justice Department takes a very hard look with that case and what went on today,” he said.

The Chicago police will have their wishes granted — Thursday morning, President Donald Trump tweeted that the Department of Justice and the FBI will review the Smollett case.

And that’s great news because there are other fishy aspects of Smollett’s case.

For example, a court order stopped Chicago police from publicly releasing more documents about their investigation.

Justice hasn’t been served in the Smollett case, and everyone knows it. Even left-wing Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel called the case a “whitewash of justice.”

For Smollett and his fixers, it might have looked like a “huge victory.”

But this battle could be a long way from over.
