Donald Trump Jr. Fires Shot at Bill Clinton for Playing the Victim in Monica Lewinsky Scandal
In a Twitter shot posted after Bill Clinton’s interview aired Monday on NBC, Donald Trump Jr. nailed the former president to the wall.
Trump Jr. slammed Clinton for “trying to #metoo Monica Lewinsky” in the interview, and mockingly gave him credit “for being ahead of the curve.”
Clinton made the remarks during his current book tour (he apparently “co-wrote” the newest thriller from fecund hack James Patterson, “The President is Missing”), during which he was finally asked serious questions about Monica Lewinsky and #MeToo by NBC’s Craig Melvin.
“A few days ago, your response to critics that suggested you should have resigned in the wake of the Lewinsky scandal. You said you should not have,” Melvin said. “If you were president now, in 2018, with everything that is going on with the MeToo movement, how would you have approached the accusations differently?”
Clinton said, somewhat unbelievably, that things would be better for him in 2018: “Well, I don’t think it would have been an issue because people would have been using the facts instead of the imagined facts. If the facts were the same today, I wouldn’t (resign).
“Do you think President Kennedy should have resigned? Do you believe President Johnson should have resigned?” Clinton said, getting combative.
“Nobody believes that I got out of that for free. I left the White House $16 million in debt,” he added, clearly playing the victim card. “But you typically have ignored gaping facts in describing this.”
“I apologized to everybody in the world,” he said.
Nevertheless, Clinton acknowledged he hadn’t talked to Lewinsky since the scandal to apologize for dragging her through the mud.
“I have not talked to her,” he said. “I never talked to her. But I did say publicly on more than one occasion that I was sorry. That’s very different. The apology was public.”
Monica Lewinsky, you may not be surprised to know, does not agree with the president’s assessment.
Neither does Trump Jr. In a tweet after the interview, he questioned the fact that Clinton (yet again) portrayed himself as the victim.
Did Bill Clinton just #metoo Monica Lewinsky??? I (almost) have no words… Props for always being ahead of the curve as the first male to publicly somehow claim victim-hood from his actions against women. Balsy! Stupid… but balsy!!! https://t.co/Fvn7Cp3OmP

Of course, Lewinsky is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Clinton, given that he’s been credibly accused of sexual assault and harassment on numerous occasions.
This sort of denial may have flown 20 years ago, or even five years ago. Now that Harvey Weinstein has brought this sort of behavior by powerful men front and center, Clinton can’t hide from it anymore.
Fake outrage won’t work. Trying to play the victim won’t work. America knows the facts, which is why the former president is reaping the whirlwind of enmity he sowed more than 20 years ago.
