Democrats Kick Back in Puerto Rico, Watch 'Hamilton' as Shutdown Rages On

Share

This should tell you everything you need to know about the ongoing partial government shutdown over border security.

President Donald Trump is sitting in the White House waiting to get something done to alleviate the shutdown and secure the $5 billion he wants for his border wall.

But Democrats have other things to do.

“I’m in the White House, waiting,” Trump tweeted. “The Democrats are everywhere but Washington as people await their pay. They are having fun and not even talking!”

While Trump eagerly waits to get the government humming again, Democrats are… “having fun and not even talking,” as Trump says.

According to  Fox News, Democrats are soaking in some sun and enjoying hit Broadway musicals in Puerto Rico while the government remains at a standstill.

Democrats are practically spitting in the faces of the very same unpaid federal workers they’re always rubbing in the face of the Trump administration during the shutdown.

It is sickening and the utter height of hypocrisy.

Would the mainstream media be jumping all over Republicans for something like this?

The total tally is 30 Democrats and 109 lobbyists, according to the Washington Examiner. They are reportedly there for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC winter retreat in San Juan. The event is taking part at a seaside resort where rooms reportedly run about $429 a night.

Fox News notes that one of the key items on the agenda is to discuss further cleanup in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

Look, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to help those in need, especially American citizens devastated by a natural disaster. But it’s a bad look while the country is going through its own governmental crisis.

Besides, it really looks like Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez has his hands full helping all of those people in need of aid.

Now, had Democrats simply hung out on the beach while addressing Hurricane Maria cleanup, it would be a bad look but not much more.

No, the real indictment of the Democratic Party comes from the fact that the retreat is basically being treated as a glorified vacation while the American government is shut down.

It’ll be mighty difficult for Democrats to deny the assertion they’re really on vacation when they’re also partying with the cast of “Hamilton,” as both the Washington Examiner and Fox News note.

Even though Democratic officials and lobbyists paid for “Hamilton” tickets out of their own pockets, that almost makes it so much worse when government workers are struggling to pay for actual necessities out of their own pockets amid the government shut down.

It’s mind-boggling. Say what you will about the president, but at least he genuinely seems upset about the ongoing government shutdown.

Between the sunny beaches and the hit Broadway musicals, it’ll be very hard for Democrats to claim the same thing.
