Democrat Reveals How Obama Admin 'Tried to Keep Quiet' Child Migrant Crisis

Share

The media’s current fixation with President Donald Trump’s administration is on immigration and how immigration officials handle children who illegally cross the border with their parents.

There are several reasons this story has had staying power even though it’s based on a sketchy understanding of the facts: Comedian Samantha Bee’s unfortunate use of a certain word, viral pictures involving children in cells that actually happened during the Obama administration, a hack journalist going on a rant about empathy and Joe Scarborough going on a rant about how Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are Nazis, inter alia.

However, one thing the media would like to forget is the fact that the Obama administration treated illegal immigrant children worse, especially during the height of the migrant crisis in 2014-2015. That’s something that the media have liked to sweep under the rug.

Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas didn’t get the memo, apparently. In an appearance Saturday on CNN, the congressman pointed out that former President Barack Obama’s administration tried to cover up how bad the migrant crisis was, something that the media was more than willing to oblige him on.

During the interview, CNN’s Frederica Whitfield had asked Cuellar if he saw any parallels between the unaccompanied minors crisis a few years ago — including those photos of children in cages — and what we’re seeing now under the Trump administration.

“I don’t know what images you’re using, but I released some of those photos, because it was kept very quiet under the Obama administration,” Cuellar said.

“There were large numbers of people coming in. The Obama administration was trying to keep this quiet. And I don’t know which image you’re using, but I released some photos that I had done about those young kids who were kept there.

“And keep in mind, when they talk about putting some of the young kids in those centers, not all of them are being separated. Some of them are coming alone … some of them are coming on their own. So it’s not a matter that every single child that we have in those centers are being separated because some of them are coming alone.”

And then he dropped yet another shoe.

“Keep in mind that under the law, you can separate a child if that person, the adult, is not the real parent or the custodian because sometimes we see situations where they’ll bring a child because they know of the policy that we have over here with children,” Cuellar said.

In just under two minutes, Cuellar took direct aim at several key parts of the media narrative when it comes to immigration.

Is the media hyping the migrant children crisis as a weapon against the Trump White House?

First, the Obama administration did the same thing — in fact, worse — in regards to illegal immigrant children than the Trump administration is doing.

Second, they kept it quiet, which is why he released some of those pictures.

Third, a lot of the children who are in custody weren’t “separated” from their parents but came alone.

Fourth, a lot of the children being brought in aren’t even being brought in by their parents or guardians, but by other individuals looking to take advantage of our laws.

You don’t usually see this sort of thing on CNN, and especially not from a Democrat representative. I’m sure Cuellar doesn’t like the Trump administration, but this is a clear demonstration of just how broken immigration was under Obama.

You probably won’t see this again on CNN, and there’s a good chance you won’t see Cuellar on there again, either.

However, it’s good to see the truth every once in a while.
