Dear Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez, Here's Why 'So Many Grown Men' Are 'Obsessed' with You

Share

We’ve all met narcissists before. You know the type: They believe everything in the world is about them, and manage to steer any conversation in their own direction at every opportunity.

Narcissists lack true humility but believe that people are constantly thinking about them. Or, to quote the classic movie “Mean Girls‘ which parodied high school-level egoists with perfect wit: “Why are you so obsessed with me?”

On Thursday, one of the newest members of Congress channeled her inner “Mean Girl” and showed once again that she lacks any self-awareness. During an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez couldn’t help but wonder why everything was, like, all about her.

“I mean, it’s weird, why are so many grown men obsessed with this 29-year-old?” she said, talking about herself.

Ocasio-Cortez was responding to a question about outlets like Fox News covering her surprise election win and subsequent actions in Washington. The New York representative pulled off an upset during the last primary and went on to become the youngest current congressperson.

The representative also accused Fox News of “lunacy” in a rambling response.

“It is funny because one of the side effects of this Fox News lunacy is that other actual members of Congress believe it and see it uncritically,” she said.

We’ve re-read that line five times and still don’t know exactly what it means. What is an “actual member of Congress” — perhaps that’s as opposed to a theoretical member of Congress? What does “seeing it uncritically” mean? Unfortunately, nobody on our staff is fluent in Cortezish.

Do you think Ocasio-Cortez is a narcissist?

Come to think of it, the congresswoman’s rant against “so many grown men” is pretty bizarre. She’s almost 30 years old and is a sitting representative in Washington. Does she not see herself as a grown-up? Hundreds of thousands of her constituents — the majority in her district — are men. Adults are the ones who vote and follow politics. Should somebody tell her?

To use the old joke, we’re not doctors, but we’ll take a look anyway: It seems almost certain at this point that Ocasio-Cortez has full-blown textbook narcissism.

While the easily-excited young congresswoman believes that men, Fox News, and every conservative in America are all “obsessed” with her, here’s a newsflash.

Yes, people on the right are talking about you, Alexandria. But it’s not because of how gosh-darn popular you are (or increasingly aren’t).

This might hurt your ego, but the reason you keep coming up in the news is because you are openly a socialist who keeps proposing things that would destroy the country as we know it.

This isn’t just hyperbole. Independents and even many on the left have distanced themselves from Ocasio-Cortez’s proposals because they’re so far detached from reality that they’re downright dangerous.

Take her Green New Deal, for instance. Even setting aside Ocasio-Cortez’s jaw-dropping proposals like ending air travel, that deal would almost certainly bankrupt the nation.

“The so-called Green New Deal may tally between $51 trillion and $93 trillion over 10-years,” reported Bloomberg last month. That’s as much as $671,010 per household based on numbers from the American Action Forum, a think tank run by a former director of the Congressional Budget Office.

Does your family have a spare $700,000 sitting around to pay for Ocasio-Cortez’s fantasy? No? Well, if you balk, you’re probably just, like, obsessed with her too.

Even more conservative numbers for the Green New Deal are shocking. Lower estimates of its cost are still close to $10 trillion dollars, or roughly twice the entire annual budget of the U.S. government. Oh, and remember, we’re already $22 trillion in debt.

If that wasn’t enough to make Americans sit up and take notice, Ocasio-Cortez’s cheerleading for socialism should raise some red flags. While countries like Venezuela descend into hellish conditions, the New York representative and other socialists like Bernie Sanders seem oblivious.

What the young politician doesn’t seem to understand is that the media is supposed to cover reckless behavior by Congress, and Americans are supposed to pay attention when a naive representative tries to spend every dime they have.

“Grown men” are “obsessed” with Ocasio-Cortez because she thinks their hard-earned money and their children’s futures are hers to gamble. Yet she works for them, not the other way around — and maybe someday she’ll figure this out.
