David Hogg Gets Walloped for Open-Borders Tweet That Accidentally Supported Pro-Wall Arguments
It might have seemed as though David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting in 2018 who became the Next Big Thing in gun control, had disappeared from the media for a while.
But he was back in all his liberal glory with a hot take on Tuesday night’s Democratic primary debate.
And setting himself up for world-class ridicule.
Hogg apparently has decided just pushing the anti-Second Amendment agenda isn’t enough. He’s against the Trump administration’s immigration policy, too — and any other immigration policy that involves not letting people set up shop on American soil anytime the urge takes them.
Hogg is entitled to his own opinion, of course. But he might want to think things through a little bit before he goes public with his views.
A tweet he sent toward the end of the Democratic debate in Detroit is an excellent example:
“It’s so ironic how many politicians’ ancestors came here through open borders, stole land, and killed indigenous people, and now call people that come to the United States the same way illegal,” he said.

Clearly young Mr. Hogg, reportedly Harvard-bound, needs to brush up on his critical thinking skills as well as his history.
If his argument was that the United States should have open borders on the grounds that North America was open for settlement by Europeans because it didn’t have secure borders — well, the logic is a little faulty.
In fact, nothing is likely to make Americans appreciate their borders more. (News accounts of illegal immigrants killing Americans are far too common as it is.)
And plenty of social media users were more than willing to point that out, including Scott Adams, the creator of the “Dilbert” cartoon and a prominent supporter of President Donald Trump.

In fact, Hogg was making the argument for strong border controls; he just apparently didn’t realize it.
Native Americans failed to secure their boarders. We should learn from their mistake.

Not surprisingly, Hogg didn’t take the responses well, ending the thread with an obscene note about “white people justifying genocide.”
Well, if nothing else, he does have a lot of time to grow up.
Hopefully, the years to come at Harvard and beyond will teach him something about how the world works. A little gratitude to the country in which he was born wouldn’t hurt either.
