Cops Remind Citizens To 'Celebrate Responsibly' with What Could Be the Dumbest Criminal of 2019
As Americans celebrate the end of an old year and ring in the start of a new year, there is a tendency for alcohol to flow freely for many people as part of that celebration.
Unfortunately, the alcohol can flow a bit too freely for some, and those individuals who consumed a bit more alcohol than they should have can sometimes do rather dumb and dangerous things while under the influence of that alcohol.
Such was the case for a rather clumsy criminal in California whose dangerous and potentially deadly drunken exploits on New Year’s Eve were subsequently used by the California Highway Patrol as an object lesson on how not to celebrate the new year.
The Central Los Angeles division of the CHP posted a picture on Facebook Monday evening of a man hanging upside down out of the driver side window of his truck after falling out and getting stuck.
The caption of the post read: “Celebrate Responsibly !! Don’t be like this guy who was ‘Hanging Out’ and was found by (Cathedral City Police).”
The of the caption detailed what happened to result in the odd picture of the man hanging out of his vehicle.
“(T)he driver of this vehicle was extremely intoxicated & had just fled from a hit & run traffic collision. In his attempt to escape & flee he was a little too far from the gate keypad,” the California Highway Patrol explained.
“As he leaned over, due to his intoxicated state, he fell out of the window, getting his foot caught in the steering wheel. Due to the confined space he was unable to help himself.
“Don’t worry he was uninjured & was assisted by (Cathedral City Police) officers and was taken to jail for DUI & Hit & Run ! Don’t Drink & Drive !!!”
The CHP concluded the post with a final message using both words and emoji symbols, but the message was clear: “Leave the (car at home) Make the decision before the Celebration begins.”
The CHP also included the rather apt hashtag “cantmakethisstuffup.”
While the sight of the drunken man hanging upside down out of the window of his truck is humorous, the circumstances of how he ended up in that position are no laughing matter.
Drinking and driving is a serious and dangerous offense, one that places all other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians on or along the roadways at great risk of injury or death.
This drunk driving criminal caused an accident with his reckless behavior, then made things worse for himself and others by fleeing the scene. Considering the fact that he had been driving around among the innocent public on the roadways in his alcohol-altered condition — which prevented him from accurately judging the distance between himself and a gate entry pad — should be all the more frightening when thinking of what else may have occurred.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is incredibly dangerous and should be avoided. Let the end result of this man’s drunken New Year’s Eve exploits serve as a reminder for why one should never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if they have consumed too much alcohol.
