Congressman Says 'Make America Great Again,' Triggers Unhinged Maxine Waters Rant

Share

As crazy as California Democrat Maxine Waters is, the Democrat Party is even worse.

After a routine meeting erupted into rancor on the floor of the House of Representatives this week, with the 79-year-old Waters going on an unhinged rant about President Donald Trump, a political party with an ounce of self-respect could be forgiven if it had tried to keep things under wraps.

But judging by the Twitter account of Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee, her party thought it was something to be proud of.

The incident took place Tuesday, during a debate over repealing regulations on car dealerships imposed by the Obama administration-created monstrosity known as the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection.

Pennsylvania Republican Mike Kelly kicked things off by explaining exactly what the GOP is aiming for during President Donald Trump’s administration, and even used Trump’s signature “making America great” phrase to do it.

“We are trying to make sure we are making America great every day in every way and the best way to do that is to stop stalking about discrimination and start talking about the nation,” Kelly said in a clear reference to Waters and her party.

“We’re coming together as a people, in spite of what you say.”

Taking her turn at the microphone, the “gentlelady from California” engaged in an outburst that would have gotten her thrown out of the TV room at the assisted living facility.

Check out the action here (and note the Twitter account it came from):

“Mr. Kelly, please do not leave,” Waters said, pointedly ignoring reminders that member remarks should be directed to the committee chairman.

Is Maxine Waters mentally fit to serve in Congress?
“Because I want you to know that I am more offended as an African-American woman than you will ever be. And this business about making America great again, it is your president that’s dividing this country.

“And don’t talk to me about the fact that we don’t understand … that’s the attitude that’s been given toward women time and time again.”

Another reminder that she was not to address another member directly sent Waters off completely.

“I don’t appreciate that you did not interrupt him when he was making those outrageous remarks about him knowing more about discrimination than I know about discrimination,” she told the chariman with her voice rising. “I resent that, and I resent the remark about making America great again.

“(Kelly’s) down here making a speech for this dishonorable president of the United States of America. Having said that, I reserve the balance of my time. And no, I do not yield, not one second to you!” (That last part was addressed to Kelly.)

Well, judging by the fact that they published it on Twitter, it’s pretty clear that Democrats on the Financial Services Committee were proud of Waters’ tantrum (then again, Waters is the Dems’ ranking member, so God help them.)

Other social media users — like the usually caustic conservative actor James Woods — called it out for the embarrassment it was. (His gentle tone here is probably a joke, but it’s even more insulting if it’s serious.)

But that was responding to the Fox story. Take a look at some of the responses to the Democrats’ own tweet.

They clearly weren’t what the party was hoping for:

Of course there were some hard-left types who agreed with her on the thread. But there are hard-left types who will agree to anything that attacks Trump.

The point here is practical politics as practiced in the world’s oldest democratic republic. The idea is that men and women of goodwill should be able to at least work civilly together in government for the greater good, even if their political opinions are wildly divergent.

It’s a good bet that Waters is now so blinded by a combination of age and her own version of Trump derangement syndrome that she’s is no longer capable of meeting even that low bar.

A self-respecting political party would have put this crazy person out to pasture long ago. Instead, Democrats are proud of her.

And that tells America everything it needs to know.
