Christian Group To Combat NY Abortion Law with Live Ultrasounds Played in Times Square

Share

One Christian group has come up with a unique way to protest New York’s new abortion law: broadcasting live ultrasounds from one of the busiest tourist attractions in America.

“In a bold response to the decision of New York and other states to legalize abortion up until the moment of birth, Focus on the Family is gearing up to blast live ultrasounds on monitors and screens across Times Square,” CBN News reported.

“We’ll have great speakers. We’re going to have music, but we’re also going to do a live ultrasound of a third-trimester baby,” Focus on the Family’s president, Jim Daly, told CBN.

“And with the 4-D technology that we have, it looks like a picture of a 1-year-old,” he continued.

“There is no way a person is going to be able to say, ‘That is not a child.’ It is a child and we want everybody to see it.”

And of course, the venue is key.

“Well, that’s the epicenter of everything. I think if you talk to anyone in Manhattan, Times Square is where it all happens,” Daly said.

“We’re not shy about going there and saying to Governor (Andrew) Cuomo and others, ‘Let’s look. This isn’t adversarial. Let’s just take a position. Let’s see what an ultrasound looks like.'”

“I doubt that they have actually seen one,” Daly continued. “And so to be able to do that on the jumbo screen and say, ‘Here’s a picture of a third-trimester pregnancy. Look at the definition. These children are viable outside the womb. These children are already fully human,’ and to do it in such a way that we can all peer into the womb and see what that child looks like, developmentally and every other way — what an awesome sight to see and these politicians will have to defend their position.”

Do you think third-trimester abortion should be legal?

The move comes amid serious debate regarding New York’s law and the controversy over a proposed law in Virginia which would similarly allow abortion up to the moment of birth.

While the Virginia bill was tabled and is unlikely to become law, Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam made headlines when he defended the bill on Washington, D.C., radio and appeared to endorse infanticide when talking about third-trimester abortions during labor:

“So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.”

The governor was soon enmeshed in a controversy involving a racist photo in his medical school yearbook and his admission he had appeared in blackface as Michael Jackson during a dance competition, but the abortion comments have continued to rankle conservatives, including Daly.

“Once a baby is born, if it’s not viable outside the womb or if it’s severely handicapped, they’re going to let the baby sit on a table and then the mother and physician decide whether or not to let that baby live — that’s not the country we live in. And that’s not the law of the land, actually,” Daly said.

During the interview, Daly also compared America’s moral lapses to what was seen in ancient Rome, exhorting Christians to take action.

“I would just say to Christians in particular — this is not new. There’s nothing new under the sun,” Daly said. “This is ancient Rome once again, and Christians were known for saving babies who were thrown out in the garbage heaps to die. That was their (Rome’s) form of infanticide.”

“So this isn’t anything new, but it was the Christians that stood up and said ‘No. Everyone human is made in God’s image and we can’t destroy innocent human beings,'” Daly added.

All of us have heard the comparisons to ancient Rome and how we’re heading for the same fall, but this is significantly different. For the first time, we’re normalizing abortion up until the moment of birth — and, if you read into Northam’s comments, even beyond. A wake-up call is desperately needed.

Will ultrasounds of third-trimester pregnancies in Times Square make a difference? For many New Yorkers, this could be their first view of who their state agrees can be killed. Most Americans oppose it, but also aren’t willing to stand up against legislators who want to push the abortion agenda.

If seeing the effects of these laws can’t cause a shift in public opinion, it would be hard to imagine what would.
