Chappaquiddick: CNN Roasted Over Tweet About One of Ted Kennedy's "Darkest Hours"
There is a new movie set to hit theaters in early April, “Chappaquiddick,” which purports to tell the true story of how a young woman died in a car accident with a young Democrat Sen. Ted Kennedy, which he managed to escape from with no real legal consequences.
The Daily Wire noted that CNN issued a tweet with a link to their review of the film which was captioned: “‘Chappaquiddick’ explores one of Sen. Ted Kennedy’s darkest hours.”
Needless to say, CNN got utterly slammed in the comments on that post and quite rightly taken to task for seemingly portraying Kennedy, and not the dead woman, as the real victim in this tragedy.

For those who may be unaware or have forgotten over the years, Kennedy is alleged to have driven his car off of a bridge and into a pond after a party on the Massachusetts island of Chappaquiddick on July 18, 1968. The only problem was, while Kennedy was able to escape the sinking vehicle, his young Senate aide Mary Jo Kopechne remained trapped inside the car and is believed to have slowly suffocated to death within a diminishing air pocket.
Those details, among many other inconsistencies with Kennedy’s story and contemporary accounts, as well as unanswered questions stemming from the case, were covered in depth in a 1994 article by Jeff Jacoby, a columnist for The Boston Globe.
That would include the incredible length of time it took for Kennedy to eventually notify authorities of the accident the next morning, as well as all the other things he is alleged to have done in the meantime that night while Kopechne suffocated and/or drowned to death.
The piece also looked sharply at how Kennedy managed to avoid any legal repercussions for his action — save a suspended two month sentence for leaving the scene of an accident — despite a district judge in a secret inquest finding “probable cause” that Kennedy had been “negligent” and engaged in “criminal conduct” that led to Kopechne’s death.
Of course, we all know that Sen. Kennedy later went on to become an absolute icon in the Democrat Party and was glowingly referred to as the “Lion of the Senate” by his adoring liberal followers.
But back to CNN’s “one of the darkest hours” tweet which seemed to frame Kennedy as the real victim in this story, a viewpoint that was sarcastically and angrily smacked down by commenters, as was gloriously noted by Twitchy.

Perhaps the most biting commentary towards CNN though came from a user who replied, “I’m not sure which is more horrifying about this tweet, @CNN… that you would paint Ted Kennedy as the victim (and not Mary Jo Kopechne,) or that you are so biased and ideologically left-leaning that you simply cannot help yourself & are not even conscious of what you did here.”
Well, this is CNN after all, so the latter possibility is quite likely.
